Yale App Questions

Can your advisor fill out the College Official Report ? He obviously has access to my record, but I’m not sure if they want someone who doesn’t personally know you to fill it out.

The application does not give a space to mention extracurriculars. The second essay question is your chance to write about those. I wrote an essay in-depth on one of my particular areas of interest. The question I have is whether it is all right to focus on one thing you have great interest in, rather than describe a number of ECs ? It’s not as though I don’t have other ECs, but I feel this one’s more relevant.

I think the purpose of the College Official report is just to show that you are in good standing, and have not been on academic probation or cheated.

I went to my adviser with that same question. He directed me to the dean of students, who stamped (not signed) my form without actually answering any of the questions. Apparently only Columbia realizes that the dean of students doesn’t actually KNOW any of the students.

how long are your essays?

i’m a little worried that my why yale? essay is too long. there’s no word limit or page limit, so i just started writing and ended up with about a page and a quarter, single spaced. do you think this is too long?

thanks!
