Yale Class of 2019 SCEA Discussion Thread

@luxetveritas9 Complete empathy! I’m in a really similar situation…It’s absolutely wonderful to have smart, motivated, beloved friends but it’s also depressing to feel like a rock among gems.

@paleselan Putin, Lukashenko and Nazarbayev(President of Kazakhstan) found a new Union this year. They are like three friend-autocrats:) I know very much about Putin, like I am really in Russian politics and Nazarbayev. Nazarbayev is disgusting, Putin is also bad. I don’t know a lot about Lukashenko’s policy but I watched tons of his interviews and I felt that he’s nice person  He even somehow opposes against Russian policy in Ukraine. Very important thing is that WEST(which is overall better ) sees only ONE SIDE. You may deny but that’s true. When I watch CNN in English and go to the most popular Russian TV there are two worlds, and BOTH OF THEM ARE WRONG at SOME DEGREE. I have no doubt that West(USA, Europe and generally countries where there is good democracy) has much better approach and view, but there are serious errors. There is some unique mentality of each nation. Off topp but anyway. I just want to say that there another eyes, and angles from which Putin, Nazarbayev and Lukashenko are much less evil than they are from “western” perspective

By the way, the biggest opposition of Putin’s regime in Russia Alexey Navalny, who is under home arrest, studied in Yale(Yale Fellow Scholarship or something like that)

Are you all sleeping guys? :)

Nope. I’m awake. :)

The harsh reality that I might not get into any selective colleges just hit me.

I keep regretting having applied to so many safeties and only a few reach schools. But then again, there weren’t many other reach schools that for my parameter. Also I decided on a completely different second major/minor, and had I known while making my list, I would have had much different schools. All my reach schools are good at the other subject but my safeties and matches are average at best.

So, what happened last night on the Y2019 facebook group? I’ve seen many comments on that matter but I have no context.

yeah im not part of the Facebook group can someone please explain what happened last night?

@razaza @Whattodo122‌ Basically Harvard 2019 and current Harvard uandergrads came on the page and said things like I got my decision already and does Yale really cite wikipedia. They basically are playing with the feelings of angst Yale prospies are exuding.

I thought only accepted students were on the FB Yale groups.

If we get in we should return the favour somehow.

@IxnayBob I get the impression that anyone can join these groups. If you search on Facebook for “Yale 2019,” you see a list of 5 different groups: Yale University Class of 2019 (78 members), Yale Class of 2019 Applicants (1,518 members), Yale Class of 2019 (11 members), Yale Class of 2019 Gap Year Students (31 members), and Yale College Class of 2019 (10 members). Each one is supposedly a “Closed Group,” but none of them seems official. It’s kind of a mess.

@IxnayBob‌ That rule doesn’t apply to this particular page because we don’t have official Yale emails as in xyz@Yale.edu.

@Planner and @chncsy, well, I’m off to FB to eavesdrop :). Thanks.

Hi,

I’m one of those people who participated in what happened on the Yale FB page, and while I’m going to offer excuses, it doesn’t make what we did right.

First of all, all the students who participated were high school students recently accepted REA to Harvard. None of them were Harvard undergrads (or at least, from what I am aware); I’m pretty sure the Harvard undergrads have better things to do with their lives than troll the Yale Applicants page. The people who had “Harvard University” as their schools on Facebook were probably super excited about their acceptances, but I’m pretty sure they’re still high school students.

Really, the plan was that we would just ask really stupid questions on the page, and then after awhile issue an apology and leave the group (unless you were also applying to Yale… then you’d obviously want to stay, although some prospective Yale students who had been accepted to Harvard did get banned for participating). I personally joined in because I would have loved some sort of idiotic comic relief (yes, I do find middle school-esque humor hilarious) when I was waiting for Harvard results. I guess a lot of stressed-out Yale applicants obviously didn’t share the same feelings, which is completely understandable.

Also, we really should have thought about how all of you hadn’t been accepted yet, but for me, I posted under the impression that you all would become part of the future Yale Class of 2019, and this was the start of the rivalry. We should have been more sensitive, and we didn’t intend to shove our acceptances into your faces.

We feel truly terrible for the pain we caused. This is pretty much the only means I know of to explain myself in response to some of the comments to our initial apology, since I’m no longer part of the Yale Applicants group.

Anyways, good luck to all of you on Tuesday, and I – as well as everyone else in the Harvard Class of 2019 – hope you receive nothing but good news! My fingers are crossed for every single one of you. :)

(Also, we look forward to what revenge you might throw back it us  )

quote )

[/quote]

Oh, you’ll feel it. And it will be so good. (That is if I get accepted, lol)
BTW, I didn’t really see what the fuss was about, I was just curious about what happened.

We just posted a bunch of Harvard > Yale jokes. You know, typical rivalry stuff, a lot referring to the signs at The Game with Harvard vs. Yale.

Huh, I didn’t actually curse when I said “****” the Yale Applicants Page.

guys we’re so close!!! the feeeellls~~~~~~~

But seriously, this weekend went by longer than I would’ve usually wanted, and I just hope that everyone ends up happy end  Thanks for the experience as we panic about Yale together!!
