Yale Class of 2020 applicants

@mjstewart1224 Exactly. I told only those closest to me but word inevitably gets around and I don’t want to let anyone down. We’ll see in about 24 hours I suppose. Good luck to you and everyone on here!

@Kasami @mjstewart1224 I feel the same way! Both of my recommenders told me that they’ve written excellent recommendation letters and they always ask me how the interview went and if I’ve heard back from Yale. Even though they aren’t teaching me this year, I feel like they’ve invested so much in me that I would hate to disappoint them. My parents are also very anxious for my decision. I know they’ll always support me, but what parent doesn’t want their child to get accepted to a top university? My heart is even beating faster as I type this. I really hope we can all get the decision we want tomorrow.

I didn’t intend to tell many people, but then a friend of mine shouted, “Hey, don’t you get your Yale decision tomorrow?!” in the middle of class today, so now I’m feeling the pressure :frowning:

At this time tomorrow, we’ll know. After all these months of waiting it seems unreal.

@Reader16 Ah something similar happen to me, but it was during lunch and some people sitting at the table next to us heard everything. Just remember that your friends won’t think any less of you for not getting accepted to a highly competitive university! Whatever happens, your classmates will be there to support you.

How are you all planning on checking tomorrow? Alone, with parents, or with friends?

@glasshours I will be home and alone (parents don’t get home until late evening). For me personally, that’s the best way to go. Whether accepted, rejected, or deferred, I’ll need the alone time to gather my thoughts and potentially my composure.

Alone, for sure! I need time to process either decision before I have to deal with people.

I realized that I would be at home tomorrow at 5pm. I’m really tempted to check before my school’s Christmas concert because I feel like counting down the time with everyone on the applicant thread is practically a rite of passage for CC users  What do you guys suggest?

@kuriosmind I say go for it! I come home right around then from an FBLA competition and I fully plan on coming here and getting in with the mob mentality. It may happen only once. And I’d also like to say congratulations to those who are accepted.

On a side note, anyone have any idea how they compared applicants? Only one other student applied to Yale from my school and he’s the valedictorian, but we are very different people in terms of EC’s and subjective material. Would I be first looked at in comparison to him? For whatever reason my high school has sent very, very few students to Yale. One was admitted last year (she was also accepted to Harvard and Princeton) who was the first in years, if not decades. I wonder what that means for me

@Kasami I think universities compare all the high school students from one geographical area, so you won’t be directly compared with the valedictorian from your school. Unless there is a significant difference in your grades, they will use other parts of your application (essays, recs, and ECs) to make their decision.

I actually told no one I applied to Yale, besides my parents and a friend there of course… I don’t mind disappointing others, but I feel more uncomfortable when they try to sympathize? Would just rather have not everyone ask

@MT15Actor I go to a small private school (~120 people in my class) and most of us have known one another since middle school, so it’s hard to keep anything a secret :stuck_out_tongue:

@Snpdrgn Most likely there will be a banner that says “Refresh Status,” “Check For Updates” or something similar. Then, after clicking on that, the link will take us to the page where we are either bombarded with a jolly little song welcoming us to the 2020 class, or a sad little letter saying thanks, but no thanks. Either way, we all applied and that shows a lot of confident in our skill sets! Studies consistently show that people who apply to elite universities and are denied earn just as much money as those who are admitted. We’ve all a long way on the journey toward our ultimate school of choice, and no matter where we all go, we’re going to make substantial impacts! Only 24 hours left to go.

Wait what time does the decision come out?

@APScholar18 5 PM EST

LOL source? Or did you just pull that out of your ass?

Does anybody know what the regions are that we are compared against? Would it be the entire Midwest for me or just Wisconsin?

@johnnyisgod - The Atlantic had an article about that a few days ago, and Malcolm Gladwell has given many, many talks/interviews about it as well. I think @niflheim000 meant people who have a good shot at getting into elite universities, but are rejected, though; anyone can apply to Yale. Whether or not you’re a competitive applicant is an entirely different story.

I’ve checked the portal 3 times today for absolutely no reason at all. :))
