@werewolf2016 Right there with ya. Got a public speaking event tomorrow and really struggling to memorize my speech.
@johnnyisgod The study was conducted by Rachel B. Rubin, Ph.D. (B.A. from Macalester College; M.A. and doctorate from Harvard University), the founder of college admissions consultancy Spark Admissions. She researches admission practices at the 75 most selective colleges and universities in America. Results from the study have been mentioned in over a dozen media outlets including The Wall Street Journal, TIME, CNN, and Inside Higher Ed. Additionally, a research paper published by Alan B. Krueger of Princeton University and Stacy Dale of Mathematica Policy Research attest that “[t]he highest ranked school that rejected a student is a much stronger predictor of that student’s subsequent earnings than the average SAT score of the school the student actually attends.”

Thanks so much! And good luck to you and everyone else
Somehow, for like the first time in forever, I have no homework…On the day I need it to distract me >.<
I’m not sure how I’m going to sleep tonight/survive school tomorrow. Can I pass out until 5PM EST and magically wake up to see my decision?
T minus 20 hours guys!!! http://■■■■■■/vaxALd
Would you guys like to do “dear future self” letters? We write to our future selves who already know the decisions tomorrow. I think it’d be a good way to calm our nerves and an interesting read for the future. ![]()
I am totally down for that @kuriosmind
As would I! Who wants to start?
Dear Future Self,
If you got in, you can ignore this. You don’t need anything, except maybe a cough drop to soothe your throat which is now sore from screaming.
If you didn’t, you’re ok. You’ve dealt with much larger, life-altering obstacles before, and you’ve always come through it just fine. It’s ok to be disappointed, but it’s not the end of the world, or even the end of an amazing college experience. Hang in there, keep your head up, and figure out your next move.
Sincerely,
Monday-Night-Me
@strideforward Okay I’ll write mine
December 14th, 2015
Dear future self,
Right now, you’ve already found out whether or not you’ve gotten into the college of your dreams. I know that for the past few months, you’ve been wanting to be able to attend Yale more than anything in the world. If you got the decision you’ve been hoping for, then CONGRATULATIONS! I’m proud of you
If not, BREATHE. Everything is going to be okay, even if it seems like it’s not right now…
You’ve worked hard in the past four years: kept your grades up, took challenges courses, dedicated yourself to your extracurriculars, and endured standardized testing. You’ve worked hard these past few months, putting together your college application. It might initially seem like your hard work has gone to waste, but that’s not true. You did well in high school because of your natural ambition and desire to learn. You put your best work into your Yale application, and it will be a valuable experience for the future! Ask yourself the question: Why do I want to go to a top university? Because you want to learn from renowned professors, be amongst intelligent peers, and be able to contribute to the world in some meaningful way! You can achieve these aspirations at any top university, and I have no doubt you will!
You might compare yourself to your peers who have received acceptances to top universities in the past and coming weeks. Remember: college acceptances are not in anyways indications of your character or your future potential, it is merely a decision made by a group of adults for their particular school. Your peers won’t think less of you, your teachers won’t be disappointed, and your parents will support you no matter what. Be happy for your peers, continue to congratulate them, they are all deserving of their acceptances and you should be proud.
Almost every successful person has faced rejection, but these mere bumps in the road have never stopped them, so don’t let it stop you either! It’s only December and you’ve only applied to one college. The future is not set in stone, so keep that drive, keep that confidence, and keep working towards your goal!
Sincerely,
Your past self
I applied RD but good luck everyone!!
@lzha97 Thank you! You too
:-?
Just read the Harvard results thread it was… well… disappointing
Dear Tuesday Night Self,
I write to you from 18 hours in the past. You have viewed your decision, and you probably have felt a deep emotional impact regardless of the text scrawled across the Yale Status Portal.
Obviously my thoughts at this point are deferral. Our high school has never sent a kid to the Ivies; we don’t build students in this way. You didn’t do everything you could to go to a school like this. You enjoyed high school, and left time for the important things like friends and family. In turn, those closest to you are immensely proud of your achievements in the context of your life and community.
In some ways I know this is to prove so many people wrong. That this acceptance letter will be the end all be all to those who question your ability because of your disability. But know this: you have already achieved so much despite the treatment you have received in school. You’ve already told those who challenge you that overcoming a monumental obstacle is an every day thing. And for that, you’ve garnered an acceptance greater than that any college could give you.
You have inspired those around you. Your music has brought tears to many eyes, and your leadership has built some of the greatest choirs in your state. You strive to lead not for personal gain, but for the development of others. You have garnered the respect and adoration of teachers, counsellors, peers. But most of all, you have the admiration of your family. Your father, who climbed his way up from poverty, could not be more proud. And in the end, isn’t this all that truly matters?
No matter what Yale says, be thankful for your blessings. And never quell your desire to help others discover their own blessings. Make your mark on this world with Yale or without. Tomorrow night you’re going to celebrate. No matter what. Celebrate with those who will walk with you on your journey today and tomorrow. And never forget where you came from.
Godspeed,
Monday Night Self
Dear future self,
There is no more you could’ve done; there is no more they can do for you. If you’re in, congratulation; if you fell short, then gather yourself up and try again. You’re brilliant, girl—you worked like hell all high school. You have “good enough” test scores, grades, awards, and the like, and “stellar” (punny, aren’t I?) extracurriculars. It was not personal. You were qualified, and it came down to the little things. If you’ve just heard the Bulldog sing, then smile, take pride, but don’t forget those just as qualified who fell on the wrong side of that same line. On the other hand, if Yale decided you didn’t belong there, you’re strong enough. You can make yourself a new home.
Breath, girl. Per aspera ad astra.
A rough road leads to the stars.
Sincerely,
Me, 19 hours out
Dear future self,
Non fui. Sum. Fui. Non sum. -QC
Me.
I have a busy day too! I have an interview for another college after school, and then I work @ 6. Honestly, I just hope I can see my decision before work because I will not be able to handle a 5 hour shift without knowing!
Also!
Dear Future Self,
Thank you.
Thank you for all the hard work and effort you’ve put into everything that you’ve done thus far whether it’s your college applications, ECs, school work, work, or whatever the case may be. You’ve truly worked yourself to the best and fullest extent that you can. I know that life may not always go the way we’d like, so THANK YOU for trying and pushing. Thank you for following your dreams.
I want you to know that you are successful, you are strong, funny, intelligent and the list truly does go on!!! You’re either going to be bringing that to Yale next fall or…you’re not.
Regardless, even after tomorrow you are still Alex and you are still great. Wherever you go.
Never let anything truly bring you down, if you get in celebrate, but don’t celebrant too much you still have the rest of senior year to complete.
If you don’t get in don’t dwell too hard you still have the rest of senior year to complete.
Hoping for the best,
Alex!
Dear future self,
If you got in, congrats! Go eat some chocolate. If you didn’t, that’s ok; go eat even more chocolate.
I’ve been creeping on this thread for a while and I feel like it’s time for me to post lol. All I can say is thank you all for being so kind and welcoming to everyone here. Everyone seems highly qualified and motivated and we all definitely deserve a spot in Yale’s 2020 class but unfortunately it’s not going to work out that way for everyone. Nevertheless we all have insanely bright futures ahead no matter where we end up (a thought I had to keep reminding myself after I got deferred from GU earlier today haha) much love and best of luck to all of you <3
