. And no one gets admitted to Yale’s CS department. Departments don’t admit anyone. You apply to Yale College. Good luck.

For schools like Yale and Harvard that defer soo many applicants, what kind of students are getting deffered, admitted and rejected? I know there are several reasons why they decide on a student but can anyone just give me some general insight on how colleges evaluate during EA or ED?

^^ Wow, I would expect these types of questions from someone who is new to CC but you have almost 1200 posts. I would think you have seen that there is no set answer to what types of students get deferred, rejected, or deferred. If you look at past Results threads for Harvard and Yale, you will see all different types of students are accepted. The same goes for rejected and deferred students. The only thing that is common to the accepted students is that they are all academically strong and most have some very unique features (ECs, life stories, etc) that complement the strong academics. However, you will also find high performing, high achieving, and interesting students who didn’t make it in so they are necessary but not sufficient qualities for acceptance. Good luck with everything!

Letmesee’s question is the million dollar question. Good luck with that one! From the little I know, you gotta be a stud in everything you do, be passionate about something you stand out in and be likable.

I wasn’t prepared to take shots there. Haha, thanks anyway.

I was this close to applying here, thanks to Gilmore Girls and of course Paris Geller. :))

does anyone know if they’re still doing yes calls?

@luciagrande Unlikely

@Tperry1982 I was also one of those kids and thank you for commending my enthusiasm. The interview is literally what they say it is, which is, a normal and casual conversation. Its very refereshing, the experience of discussing politics, embarrassing moments, and small triumphs and fails with someone that is on the same intellectual level as yourself. My advice,
1.) Speak clearly (dont banter or rant)
2.) ask daring questions
3.) show a lot of personality
4.) dont over share
5,) have something meaningful to share
6.) Be passionate!!!

I haven’t had my interview nor have I been contacted. I’m getting a feeling I won’t get one at all.

are the YES calls still happening

What is a Yes cal?l

At the end of Feb, Yale hosts the YES-W weekend event for a select handful of STEM applicants who have rec’d likely letters. These are applicants whom Yale REALLY wants to court and have matriculate.

I submitted my LOCI last weekend through email. I haven’t received a response and I guess I’m not expecting to receive one considering how busy adcoms must be at the moment but how can I ensure that they received it?

@letmeseetheworld There is really no way to ensure that they have seen it. I faxed mine over and I can only cross my fingers that they will at least glance it over. Honestly, I don’t think a LOCI will really do much, but sending one can’t hurt, right? :-/

Yupp.

I tried my best and submitted the best app I possibly could. That’s all I could have done really.
