Yeah pretty much @TheWaffleMan149
Thanks @VaishS !
@Falcon1 so yes calls are coming this weekend? Or they already came last weekend?
I am pretty sure that YES calls are done
Yes calls are done. The event is this weekend.
There are non YES-W likely letters issued. When? Is it over? Who knows. But not all likely letters are aimed at athletes and STEM applicants.
so frustrated…been thru 16 back and forth emails trying to set up a phone interview with my assigned alum… my alum keeps making plans and then cancelling or not calling on our agreed upon time… not sure what to do now except just hope he eventually calls
@gracie21 Who is it? Because mine did the same for a little while.
Took 3 weeks to get it done.
I’m not even get one:(((( but as i remembered that the due for the interview reflection is passed like 15th of January. ??? So interview now ??? man lucky you since u guys have an interview.,…!!! i did not even to close to one…:((((
4 and half weeks left to go…
No one in my school was called for an interview. Oh well.
@DaPueo I dont want to say his name on a forum but i live in the DC area and he graduated in '08, if that rings a bell. He’s been ignoring all my emails now so I’m not sure what to do
If I and one other applicant applied from my school, and I was the only one offered an interview, is this a good sign, or is it random?
its randm unless the other applicant was in no way competitive

@T26E4 Do you recommend sending a second, brief LOCI? I read that someone where but I think it might be a little too much. How do I know if my LOCI was even received/read?
@letmeseetheworld
Absolutely not.
You don’t-- you have to trust the system.
Just out of curiosity, at what point of the decision making process are they in right now? Have they eliminated most of the apps? Are they in committee right now? And how does committee work? I’ve gotten mixed answers here and on google. Do all the admission officers gather in a room and review each app that has made it to committee only once, or do they review them multiple times?
I find it fun to theorize what they’re doing to our applications haha
Very far along.
Yes
Yes
After initial reads by two people, the bulk of apps that are still viable get presented to committee (some are shoo-ins: special cases, athletes, etc. that don’t require going to full committee). A file gets presented and the committee votes yes, no, possible WL or no decision. Then they move on. Depending on slots available, they revisit.
Committee only sits and hears files presented that have passed initial reads.
For more info, listen to this about Amherst: http://www.npr.org/2011/03/28/134916924/Amherst-Admissions-Process
My honest take on this entire process: “Meet Basic benchmarks with some degree of Luck”. Otherwise, you are out. The founding fathers had a great vision but in today’s competitive world, I am quite skeptical of the admissions team. How many of them truly know who and what to look for, other than the bare stupid grades, ACT/SAT, etc.?
I know someone who have gotten LL (this year) but their accomplishments are way above the mark (typical asian credentials). If they are kind of folks the admissions team is looking for, it is truly really disappointed, as they have definitely not understood the motto statement of the school. These students are really donkeys - who work 24x7 with no brains to “really” think (my 2 cents).
I have understood the process as “meet basic benchmarks, then it is luck.”
