Yale Class of 2020 applicants

I’m going to second @filbierto 's request and suggest that, unless it bears specifically on the topic of this thread and is likely to be of general interest, discussion of @shivaya 's - or anyone else’s - college rating system, personal beliefs, etc., be confined to PMs or moved to a new thread. I can only speak for myself, but these aren’t the kinds of posts I come to the “Yale Class of 2020 applicants” thread to read.

Decided not to bcoz many of my friends (from the same school) applied there. And MIT is very selective on how many they take from each school :((

I’m not sure if this thread will eventually evolve into a small community by the time decisions are released, and although I agree with @DeepBlue86, I sometimes miss the threads all of the EA applicants had. I know that CC is used for information, however, we had also developed it to be a community for conversation in November. Again, I don’t know if the users on the few Ivy threads are just interested in information at this moment; I don’t think conversation should be taboo, especially since it is so close to decision day. After all, these users are potential classmates for the next four years.

Great stuff all around everyone, solid read.

@shivaya - not the competitive type?

Why is there so much tension here? Go over to PMs as @filbierto said, please.

@yalebound2020 I anticipated that you would respond to the first polite request to tone it down, but you are incredibly irritating and immature. Please take this elsewhere or settle down.

I don’t disagree, @schroscat - I’m absolutely in favor of conversation, and I think the “support group” aspect of CC is an important one. When a thread is started, it seems to me that people are being invited into a room to have conversations related to the thread’s specified topic, and should be considerate. When one subset of participants begins to dominate, or people take the conversation onto an extended tangent, or non-constructive differences of opinion emerge and persist, I think others in the room should try to redirect the discussion, smooth things over or encourage the people involved to continue their conversation elsewhere.

@DeepBlue86 I wholeheartedly agree. When the thread gets out of hand, we should ensure that everyone is having an enjoyable experience. It just seems that overall the RD threads are a little less welcoming of long-winded conversations. Then again, I could be very wrong.

I have nothing against extended conversation, but I do have something against people arguing/being passive-aggressive/being insulting/contributing less-than-favorable discussion.

Which, some of this is going on here.

Well, @schroscat , I don’t think you’re wrong, but the explanation could be that as we get into the admissions homestretch, tempers are fraying a bit…certainly, a number of seniors I know are tired and feeling the strain. Let’s all try to be as kind as you seem to be…

Have any of you seen the Penn ED thread? Seriously, take a look
I am friends with a lot of those people on Facebook now because of the community that we created over that month and a half. We should welcome the same here.

@TheWaffleMan149 Yesssss hehe I am like actual friends with some from the Penn ED thread. We talk every day still :))

@TheWaffleMan149 , @VaishS: Do you have any updates?

The Penn ED thread was simply exceptional.

@VaishS I haven’t really talked to them aside from CC occasionally, but my point is how close we became! I think conversation here is a good idea!

@shivaya What kind of updates? It absolutely was!

@TheWaffleMan149 - presumably, waiting till April 1 before making the choice?

@TheWaffleMan149 @shivaya yeah, everyone seems to be waiting until April 1st even though pretty much everyone has gotten into great schools. @jarrett211 is the one one who has committed I think (UChicago)

@VaishS That is correct. I committed to UChicago back in December. Feels like ages ago to be honest.

@shivaya @TheWaffleMan149 @VaishS PM your names and details so I can friend you all on Facebook!!! I remember saying a while back that once this whole process was done I would connect with everyone on social media. (Well it’s not done for everyone, but it’s done for me, so yeah message me so I can friend y’all.). And add me to any groups you have. Low-key a bit mad at myself for not asking earlier haha.

And don’t think I haven’t been paying attention to what has been happening to all the other people from the ED thread. I’ve been lurking here and there making sure you all have gotten into somewhere great and there are still more great things to come within the next month (e.g. @shivaya with UT Austin, @VaishS with UVA, and @TheWaffleMan149 with WashU very recently).

Also, since it feels weird to be talking about Penn in the Yale group, I should probably say something to the Yale applicants still waiting to hear back to make it relevant. Good luck to all of you! Regardless of whether you get in or not, you’ll all end up somewhere great.

@jarrett211 - Thanks. At this point, UNC, Chapel Hill seems to be more appealing than UT Austin but the final decision will be made on April 5th. Who knows, I may see you in U Chicago.
