On a different note, last years thread has so much speculation on whether having the verification letter in FA list and having SID actually links to acceptance. I read through many and could not be sure its true. Do you know if the theories were true?
Nope, not at all. None of them were true.
It is like they donât even want to give advanced notice to a clever few through obscure hints . . . .
My kid had all the âsignsâ last year to get in. He didnât. It means nothing .
Did anyone without interviews get in?
Do people ever get in both without financial aid updates and without an interview? I think Iâm a strong enough candidate to at least be considered, so itâd be disappointing to just have been rejected early on in the process.
Just as a warning, only a small fraction of Yale admits are going to be reflected here, and so when you start stacking combinations of conditions you could quickly run out of admits reflected here meeting all those conditions. But of course that doesnât mean anything unless you do a census of the whole admit class.
So I really would advise just putting this sort of thing aside. Nothing short of a Likely Letter is actual information, and you just have to wait to see what they decide.
To be fair, the Yale financial aid office kinda had a hand in the whole SID astrology mess last year⊠I called them a couple of times last year and their answers werenât consistent. One person in the FA office said itâs given to every applicant and another said you donât get one until youâre admitted. Go figure.
Anyhoo, it wasnât true as we all know now
Anyone got any likely letters?
They came out for Columbia today!
Columbia has been out more than few weeks but is Yale likelies out ?
yep they came out a while ago
Donât see anyone mention that here or in Reddit âŠ

Wondering if any of the deferred applicants have had an interview by now. I know that not having one doesnât necessarily mean you are denied, but I was just curious if any deferred ended with an interview during the RD round. Oddly enough, my child had interviews with all their reach schools except Yale (childâs top choice).
Same for us. I really donât think a deferred would get an interview, they had what they needed already and just wanted more time. I do not view it as a bad thing, same position they were already in, they do not âneed more information.â
Same (all around, I also agree with your reasoning).
For that matter, I was just reviewing the Likely Letter podcast, and they explained they never send Likely Letters to people who originally applied SCEA because that is enough to assure them they wonât have a yield problem if they admit those applicants.
Point being it really is pretty simple. Deferred applicants are essentially complete in terms of evaluation including as to questions like fitness for Yale. They are just waiting to make a final decision in the context of the RD pool.
FWIW, I told mine during REA that I would be surprised if he got one. His application is very consistent and I see why it is not a case for needing more information.
Have not listened to that podcast, but the simpler answer is if their apps merited a LL, they would have been admitted SCEA. AOâs point is that LL usually go to the types of students where they might have yield issues (mostly STEM types who may also be considering colleges like MIT, Caltech, Princeton and Stanford). As an aside, the cross admits that have been the most competitive to Yale and where they keep a close eye on are HSPM.
