[Class of 2015 admit rate lowest ever | Yale Daily News](http://www.yaledailynews.com/news/2011/mar/31/class-admit-rate-lower-rate/)

Because they aren’t peers. Get over it.

/thread.

informative, what do you mean “get over it”?

For undergrad:

HYPSM

others

Harvard seems to think of Columbia as a peer, so I guess what Yale thinks doesn’t matter…haha Very typical.

[Harvard Accepts Record Low 6.2 Percent of Applicants to the Class of 2015 | News | The Harvard Crimson](Harvard Accepts Record Low 6.2 Percent of Applicants to the Class of 2015 | News | The Harvard Crimson)

“The decline in the acceptance rate is consistent with the numbers at peer institutions. The acceptance rate for Princeton University’s Class of 2015 was 8.4 percent, down from 8.8 percent last year. At Stanford University, 7.1 percent of applicants gained acceptance—a slight decrease from 7.2 percent the year before. Columbia University saw the most dramatic drop: 6.9 percent were admitted to the freshman class this year compared to 9.2 the year before.”

Also, it is Haarhvard then all others…

What does this even mean? You provide no context.

Um, it’s not like Yale banished Columbia students from campus then burned all references to Columbia ever having been part of the Ivy League… it’s one article in one paper written by one person. Hardly something to freak out about.

That is because Columbia is no longer a peer, it is a superior. You don’t make an unfavorable comparison if you can avoid it. I would do the same in their situation. I wouldn’t even be surprised if Columbia gets banished from YDN’S Insider’s Guide to Colleges next year.

Everyone looks at HYPS as if it is some immutable statue or law of physics or something. Around 1950, it used to be HC and everybody else. Things can and do change.

CHYMPS is a great acronym if you think about it.

Representing Wharton (Penn), how about WHYMPS?

I like it; the W could also represent W as in Walsh School of Foreign Service for Georgetown.

Are people throwing Columbia together with HYPMS because US News ranked them #4 this year?

It’s interesting that people seem to agree with Columbia’s recent rise in the rankings but are skeptical of WashU’s rise (nearly everyone on CC seems to agree that Brown,Cornell >> WashU).

Whenever there is a C next to HYMPS, I always assume CalTech. not Columbia.

^^^^sentiment, yes you are correct, the “C” in HYPSMC would represent Caltech and not Columbia…

Japanoka, are you still upset that Columbia is ranked higher than Penn? Go ■■■■■ for Penn and leave Columbia alone…

setting a bookmark.

SmartGuy, sorry, but I personally feel that both middle level Ivies, Penn and Columbia, are excellent colleges - among the best in the country, but certainly not at the level of HYPSM+Caltech
