I have a FANTASTIC rec from my english teacher I had for both freshmen and junior year. I went from getting Bs in her class freshmen year to all As junior year and an A on my IB internal assessment. She is like my best friend and she went to Brown, UVA, and UMichgan.

I went through a lot my junior year. Including finding out about an affair my dad had with many many people, which was an issue even after we found out. he got caught 3 more times after. Also, i almost moved midyear, which caused stress and some how we got called by the Department of child services saying i was getting beaten and I wasn’t… It was strange, but more stress. Threat that my brother had cancer. more stress…

FANTASTIC rec from my guidance counselor! I love her!! lol.

My grades freshmen year sucked for reasons tht i dont think matter because yale doesnt look at tht right??

i think i put everything??

Your ACT score is too low for you to have decent chances SCEA.

retake act in september.
don’t bother putting insignificant things like french club on your resume if you only did it for one year and didn’t have leadership in it.

I see a whole lot of stuff, but I want to know what your substance is. Of all those myriad of things you do, what is your heart at, what dreams do you chase, what is your passion? Don’t get me wrong, you have done quite a ton of stuff, but quite a few of my friends didn’t get in even with 3-4 president positions in clubs such as NHS.

I think what really determines if someone gets into Yale ISNT mostly grades, ISNT mostly test scores, ISNT mostly numbers, but your passion. If you can show them your vision, and show them that you are willing not only to dream but also to live some answer to those dreams, then you will have a shot of getting in. If you show them instead that you did a lot of stuff but fail to show them why you did them, then your chances are no better than anyone else who has applied to the school.

As it is, think deeply and reflect on why it is that you did the Big Brother / Big Sister program, or why you lead tutoring, or why you are involved in NHS. Is it because you love to help others? Is it because you enjoy organizing for causes, is it because you want to devote yourself to something that is bigger than yourself? Whatever the reason, hopefully it is not because it looks good on college resumes. Maybe it does for some schools, but not for HYPSM. If you look at their final admissions rate of 7-10 percent, that means even assuming that half of the people who applied were not qualified (which is a huge assumption to make in my opinion), your chances are still no better than one in five to get in randomly. They have the ability to look for the minutae of not only what you do, but WHO you are.

Show them your dreams and beyond that your drive to achieve those dreams, and you raise your chance significantly, otherwise with just numbers, in general on CC theres like a what 20% admissions rate for SCEA? I would not chance any better until then

To be honest, I will def think bout which ECs to put on my application. I just copied and pasted what I have on my resume. My passion is math and music (minor). I want to be a math professor. Tutoring math inspired me and I found out what I love about math isnt the application, but the theory. Why one rule has exception and why some dont. i rly enjoy it. More than anyone can imagine. As for music, I’ve never let out until this year that I could sing. I was almost embarrassed, but I now love it. I performed at this local tallent show thing and was so nervous because I never let it out. My essay is about me leading up to my audition. It’s my new love. And I promise all of you that my ECs were not “college builders”. I cut out everything I was not passionate for (stuff i only did or like one year). Thank you so much. I really want them to feel my passion for this. i will try my hardest!! I rly will. :)
