The more important is what are the stats of applicants. We have two female twins applying ED to Yale. Their GPA is 3.96 and 4.0 ( unweighted)respectively. They go the same scores on the SATs: 800 Math and 675 verbal. I don’t know what they did on writing or SAT IIs. They also took a lot of AP and honors courses.

As of a few moments ago, I decided on Yale EA, so hello everyone! I’ll probably major in math, but I also love history, philosophy, and anything related to guitars.

Favorites:
Bands: Opeth, SOAD, Slayer, Disturbed, Misteria, Dimmu Borgir, old school Metallica, and some Orchestral music.
TV Shows: The Simpsons, Seinfeld, The Sopranos, Southpark, Smallville
Books: “Lord of the Rings”, “Surely you’re joking, Mr. Feynman!”, “The man who loved only numbers”, “The Da Vinci Code”
Movies: “Forrest Gump”, “Lord of the Rings”, “A beautiful mind”, “The Green Mile”

Bizarre Anecdote: I’m almost always mistaken for someone, and it gets out of hand sometimes.

Looking forward to getting to know you all! :)

oh yeah, one thing that i DID learn at that info session I mentioned was that the yale admission committee actually prefers the online app over the paper one (though that won’t affect your chances). at least that’s what my rep said.

PinnedBot:
“Surely You’re Joking, Mr. Feynman!” is quite possibly the greatest autobiography of all time. It gave me strength and hope while I was toiling through IB physics.
You’re only the second person I’ve met who’s ever read it!

Ooh, profiles!

Bands: Toby Mac, Reliant K, DC Talk, Heart
Composers: Brahms, Debussy!, Prokoviev, Ibert
TV Shows: MAD tv, Gilmore Girls, Naturally Sadie
Books: Middlemarch, To Kill a Mockingbird (my sn is based on my initials, though, not this), The Yearling
Movies: Princess Mononoke, M/u, Persuasion

Bizarre Anecdote: Someone I knew a while ago saw me and said, “Hey, you’re Tammy’s little sister!” I am Tammy, and I don’t have a sister. I just haven’t grown since middle school.

Profiles? I love a good profile!

Bands: Cake, Pink Floyd, Queen
Composers: Handel, Bach (yes, I KNOW I’m a stereotype, thank you very much)
TV Shows: The Simpsons, The Daily Show
Books: A Hundred Years of Solitude, The Moor’s Last Sigh, Surely You’re Joking, Mr. Feynman
Movies: Wag the Dog, Pride and Prejudice (the BBC version)

Bizzare anecdote: Everyone on this forum thinks I’m a guy. But I’m actually not. Honestly people, you don’t have to be male to appreciate a little glasnost!

Gorbachev_Sez: For real? I guess I’m among them, too, because I thought you were a guy! And yes, Feynman is pretty damn awesome. He was a very good teacher, and he made me consider a career as a scientist. Have you read “What do you care what other people think?” or any his other publications?

By the way, Hoffman’s “The Man Who Loved Only Numbers” inspires you to do math. Paul Erdos dedicated his whole life to math. A very good read.

Artists - Tupac, Biggie, Nas, Immortal Technique, NWA,
TV Shows: Chappelle’s Show!!! The Daily Show, Family Guy, basically anything and everything on Comedy Central
Books: 1984, In Cold Blood, The Double Helix
Movies: The Godfather, Shawshank Redemption, Gladiator, Good Will Hunting, and we cannot forget, Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle :)

O and PinnedBot, welcome to the Yale EA thread. I remember you on the old RSI thread, so it’s great we have a good mix of humanities and brilliant scientists applying.

PinnedBot:
I’ve read his “Six Easy Pieces” and “Six Not-So-Easy Pieces,” both very good physics books, but not “What Do You Care What Other People Think.” I swear I couldn’t have gotten through physics without Feynman. If he was still alive, I’d go wherever he was teaching. He’s totally my role model.

I’ll check out “The Man Who Loved Only Numbers.” God knows I need a little inspiration. My calculus class is slightly less than thrilling.

Listing books and movies? We already did that. I’m not going to repeat:p

let’s revive this… so, when do people mean to get their apps out by? i heard they start accepting them october 16th, so i’m thinking of sending mine out by then.

ok, any violinists out there? there must be one of you out there somewhere. stupid question, but how do you pronounce mendelssohn? is it like MEN DELL SUN? MEN DELL SAWN? MEN DELL SEWN? je ne sais pas.

i’ve always just said men dell son. if that’s wrong, then i’m just going to use the excuse that i’m a californian who also says the occasional “dude” and “like.”

sending mine on october 31st at 11:59:59

^^ haha. Probably the best thing to do.

by the way, wrathofgod (or anyone for that matter), are you sending in any research paper? And I remember you from the RSI thread, too. :)

i’m sending in two abstracts- for psychology research and for history research.

My counselor set a deadline for us. I have to be ready with the App by October 14…As to research “abstracts,” no thanks.

blurblurblur: Awesome. I was wondering if it’s possible to send in papers instead, but I guess abstracts will suffice.

i too am sending in my abstract… behavioral neuroscience

im also sending in my abstract, biomed research…

is anyone else having serious am-i-good-enough-to-get-into-yale doubts? or just me?
