I agree as well. My parents definitely aren’t rich but they’ve saved for years and pretty much have enough to send me to a school like Yale (not that I will be accepted) but I feel sooo bad about taking so much money just for undergrad, especially since I have plans for law school and I have a little sister It’s definitely a huge decision I’m glad I don’t have to make yet!

Well, I can’t really comment on the spending big issue, as my parents can’t afford any US college. As a result, in the end i’ll just go to whichever gives me a full ride.
Yet, if I were any of you, I wouldn’t blow so much cash off on college. In the long run, isn’t graduate school more important anyway? I mean, is college worth having your parents go nearly bankrupt over? Just some thoughts…

actually if your parents can’t afford anythingyou are more likely to get need based financial aid. HYP all give full-rides to anyone with under $40,000. It id the most difficult for the middle class who donlt have enough money to pay but normally don’t get enough financial aid.

Yea, I know that. It’s a little more complicated in my case, though. Anyway, it’s a long story.

There’s a lot of obsessing (who can help it) without much in the way of true material to obsess over. I have been reading the Yale site (obsessively) about admission and ? the following
Yale legacys admit at a rate of about 33%
If you follow this web site, the most amazing applicants —scores, grades, you name it—are deferred and rejected.
Does this mean the legacies that are admitted have as good scores as the “average” amazing applicant or does being a legacy bump you over better candidates? I can’t believe 1/3 of their legacy candidates are stunners.

For those of you who sent your applications around 10-31, have you received anything from Yale? Any confirmations?

nope, not yet

No 20/20, I have not received any confirmation. I sent my ap. in on 10/31, and have only received confirmation of payment of the application fee.

i mailed my app on the 26th or so and havent heard back since. haha.

I sent mine like three weeks ago. No confirmation.

I sent my application on October 14. I received notification by November, and had my alumni interview Nov 2.

If you interviewed on campus (before sending in the application. Do you get another interview if they’re interested??? It occurs to me that no where on the application was there a spot to indicate I had already interviewed…

yea I also interviewed on campus before sending in the application, so I’d like to know the answer to this question too.

ahhh i just found a grammatical mistake too.

I had an on-campus interview the first week of October, I sent in my application a week later. Around Nov. 1 the alumni association in Oklahoma contacted me by e-mail. I told them that I would be willing to forgo my alumni interview if necessary, since I had already had an on-campus interview. They told me that this wouldn’t be necessaray and I had an alumni interview the next day.

If you interview on campus and also get a call for an alumni interview, it’s not because they’ve been making cuts and you passed or anything like that, it’s just because your app got in early or on time and you live in an area with enough alumni to go around.

I sent in my paper application October 17 and haven’t heard back. Should I be worried?

Mmmm…maybe. I sent mine in on the 15th and I heard back over a week ago.

I sent my application in (online) on 10/31 and got an e-mail notification today

same here .
