yale EA ppl

richard - If he talks about your SAT scores on his interview report that shows incompetence on his part, not yours. The ASC guidelines (http://www.yale.edu/asc/guidelines/interview.html</a>) basically state that you’re not supposed to ask or talk about objective qualifiers like that, and even if you do you’re definitely not supposed to bring it up on the report.

Plus, I’m sure his unthoughtfulness will be reflected in all of his interview reports and the committee will notice a trend. It’ll work out.

I doubt he’s seen the website – he told me he doesn’t understand computers and refuses to use them.

Also, I think I might’ve been the only person he interviewed. He didn’t call me because he didn’t know that the “EA” next to my name meant I was applying early. So he thought he had until the regular decision deadline to contact me. I wouldn’t have gotten an interview if I didn’t contact the ASC director, and I’m thinking that would’ve been the better course of action in retrospect.

I just had a not-so-amazing interview as well. My interviewer was pleasant, but not particularly friendly. He never laughed, but always had this little smile. I couldn’t tell whether it was a “hmm, that’s interesting!” smile or an “I hate you forever” smile. Kind of unnerving. I told him I was interested in biology and he asked why and I didn’t really have an answer. I don’t know why it interests me. It just does! And he asked me if I had done anything outside of school to pursue it, but I really haven’t…which is sad, but I do so much of it in school anyway, and there are other things that I want to do. But oh well. He wasn’t a creepy old man at least. And my on-campus interview went really well, so I guess its all good.

richard: hahaha that old man sounds monstruous. luckily, he doesn’t stand for all of yale.

Gorbacev, I had the same experience with my on campus interview. My interviewer asked me why I was interested in political science and I had to think of a botched answer very quickly that probably didn’t satisfy her much, so I felt kind of stupid :frowning: Oh well. But I’ve done stuff to pursue my interest outside of school so I guess that redeems me a little bit.

will it hurt me not to have had an on-campus interview?

no, it doesn’t hurt u if u don’t have any kind of interview

i just got a call from my interviewer! the interview is this wednesday… isn’t that a bit late? when are the ASC reports due to yale?

They are due Thursday

well…i guess i’m REALLY late for the interview because my interviewer just called me today and set an interview up for NEXT WEEK lol. yes! i win the late game! x_X;

Wow, that’s definitely past the deadline. Are you sure your interviewer knows you’re applying EA?

yep, because my counselor had to call in and confirmed it with the guy in charge and everything… ahhhhh "‘’(0_o)/"‘’'/ what do i do…what do i do… nervous/anxious/excited ahhhhhh

Hmm I guess it will be fine as long as your application isn’t reviewed before your interview. The admissions people can’t read all of our applications on December 1st, so your app will have to be read after your interview is over and your interviewer sends all that stuff to Yale, which I hope he/she does very promptly!

one way or another it won’t hurt you

I had my interview today, it was great. I’m sorry to all of you who have horror stories. My interviewer was nice, he asked serious questions but when I was able answer him eloquently he seemed impressed. At the end he said he thought I had a “great chance of getting in” I can’t imagine how it could have gone better. Those of you who haven’t had your interviews yet don’t be worried, be confident, smile, and don’t be afraid to talk about yourself. Good Luck.

I had my interview earlier last week, and my interviewer actually cried. I answered one of her questions quite personally, and she started crying. I felt so bad! I’m guessing it’s not a bad sign? Overall, the interview went well, but not great. She also mentioned how my chances were good and how much I’d “benefit from Yale”, but leaving her house, I still wasn’t at ease. I guess it’s all the anxiety building up until December. If there’s anything I’d suggest…just speak articulately.

My interviewer hardly let me get a word in. He talked on and on of totally non-Yale-related issues, like how ‘cataract’ is Egyptian for ‘white water’ and he had a patient from Egypt come in once saying “Doctor, I have white water in my eye” because he was translating literally. Now I know how to recognize a cataract (whites in the pupils), but I don’t know my chances for Yale  He kept saying my fate was sealed anyway and his voice counted for very little, but that didn’t keep him from using it liberally. Not that I mind. I nodded and smiled a lot and edged in my sparkling wit whenever I had the opportunity :D

My interview just got set up today… for Thursday night. Oh well. At least it’s in the Barnes and Noble cafe. :-)

Good luck. Have fun with your interview, I certainly enjoyed myself during mine.

Thank you, I hope to! I did an informational one a few months ago for Williams and really enjoyed it. Of course, I was the only one asking the questions in that one :-).
