sorry to deviate from the rent laud … but is it ok to apply to U of Tampa (rolling admissions) now when i have also applied to Yale scea… or would that be breaking their “no colleges who reply before jan 1” rule?

and as to the orginal topic of discussion: rent comes out here in dec. uv def. convinced me to go c it :D

Good question elodie!! I’m wondering the same for U Chicago…

I seem to remember last year’s seniors applying to rolling schools and SCEA/ED schools at the same time. At my school our ED/EA apps are due in the middle of October and all RD/rolling apps are due the Monday after Thanksgiving. So we’re required to submit them before January 1 anyways. I think it’s okay, but if anyone else knows it’d be nice to know for sure…

I believe the Yale website allows applying to rolloing admissions school for SCEA applicants. On the other hand, U Chicago isn’t rolling admissions, and you can apply only RD if you’ve applied SCEA to Yale - I’m sure you can send in your RD apps “now” though…

Yale certainly allows applying to schools w/ rolling admissions. I was accepted to Indiana University two months ago…but hopefully that won’t mean anything come December 15 :)

I’ve seen way too many big envelopes lately–with college materials other than acceptances. Texas A&M, Oklahoma State and Washington in St. Louis are particularly aggrivating.

Ahhhhhhhhhh I was listening to Rent NONSTOP from like Monday until yesterday right before I slept. Now I have the hugeeeeeest headache (for the past 10 hours) and I can feel my brain THROB whenever I even think about listening to Rent.

It’s torture, really.

I love how the Yale board is full of RENTheads. I guess it really is the gay ivy? Haha.

Rent was awesome, I saw it wednesday and thruday then went out looking for the the soundtrack at three stores. I love the movie i love the songs and I love love love Adam Pascal.

Whow, after all your enthusiam I really hope Rent will come out in the Netherlands as well, preferably soon!!!

btw seasons of love is one of my favorite songs! My theater group and I once performed it in a play, so it has a lot af sentimental value for me!!

Ah, I’m so glad to see other Rent-heads on here!

Here’s a question for those of you who’ve been interviewed (mine is tomorrow)… I know they always ask if you have any questions, but I’m having trouble thinking of things to ask. Most seem like they’d be answered on the website or so super-specific that I doubt my alumni interviewer would know (like about a certain aspect of a certain department)
So what do you ask?

I had a really hard time asking questions of my interviewer - they set aside about fifteen minutes for your questions, so be prepared. My interviewer said that he thought it was funny that, in most cases, the students he interviews know more about Yale than him. So, don’t be afraid to explain that you’re familiar with the school/campus/activities.

Some questions that I asked were subjective, and thus couldn’t be answered by the website. Things about the interviewers experience at Yale- how he/she felt about class sizes, opportunities for extracurricular involvement or community service despite workload, etc. My interviewer shared a great story with me about a service project he did as a result of one such question, and it was a good springboard for conversation. I don’t think that they expect you to have questions number 1, 2, 3, etc. Just go with the flow, if it’s conversational enough, questions may arise that you hadn’t even thought of previously.

My interviewer was the creepiest old man. He just asked me for my test scores (to which he commented that he didn’t know what they meant nowadays) and when I would elaborate on something (like my involvement in activism) he would cut me off and say “what else?”. He spent most of the time talking about himself, and how back then Yale was really different, it was all men (he was like “and that was bad if you know what I mean” and sort of winked at me… euhhh) So the report he sends in is going to be all of my scores, and I hope that’s not what they think I decided to talk about.

I’m really disappointed. He’s the first thing to honestly turn me off of Yale. I was prepared to be engaged and to show him what I was passionate about, and he just ended up being an awkward 60-something creep with an empty fishtank in the corner of his office and a sports illustrated swimsuit calendar an arms-length at eye-level from his chair.

He was talking about how he worked in an office at UPenn, and I told him my grandfather worked there (at the education grad school). He asked me what his name was, and told him it was the same as mine, and he was like “oh was he a tiny chicano?” and I’m sure he didn’t mean it to be insulting, but ehh, who says chicano today??

It was really just an unpleasant experience. I wish I could let the admissions office know how uncomfortable the whole thing was, but I don’t want to be seen as insulting an alum…

wow i’m really sorry to hear that richard. hopefully he isn’t reflective of the current student body at Yale. Eeesh that does sound creepy. He might have had good intentions though. In any case, hope this interview didn’t turn u off of yale completely.
