Yale > Harvard...Now It's Only a Matter of Getting In...

What are my chances to Yale? My grades are pretty decent, my SATs could be better. I’m kinda counting on my extracurriculars to get me in. Is it true that now the Ivy League schools are putting less emphasis on grades?

CR and Writing seem stable on your SAT… I’d say improve the Math score, though. What are your grades in Math?

Also… need stat information. Are you going to ask for FA/what ethnicity are you - URM or ORM?, etc.

Math grades aren’t so hot:
(9) Honors Algebra 2 w/ Analysis: B (first semester), A (second semester)
(10) Honors Precalculus w/ Analysis: B B
(current) AP Calculus BC: A (second semester not yet available)

This year, I’m taking AP Lang & Comp, AP US History, AP Chem, AP World History, AP Calc BC, and AP Psychology. (no IB at my school).

I’m Asian American. Moved here at the age for 10 from Indonesia. Fluent in English, Indonesian, Mandarin, and Taiwanese.

I don’t think I’m asking for financial aid. I’m also applying early to Yale.

fyi, stuff like whos who and national society of high school whatever are not viewed as favorably as one might think since you have to pay to get in them.

potusho,
Your mixture of music, politics, and student government sound a lot like mine did and my SAT math (on the third and best try) was 690, but a retest might be helpful. I’d consider sending in a music supplement if you feel confident in your playing (a good review can be a deciding factor if your application is one of the many that are hanging in limbo as decision time hits.)
Also, I’m assuming you’ve taken the hardest classes at your school, etc.?

If you do a good job making sure your personality & uniqueness shines through on your app & recs, you have a good shot.

When you did the > separating Yale and Harvard, did you mean that Yale was bigger (better) than Harvard? :D

You don’t have to pay to get into who’s who…fyi…

When you did the > separating Yale and Harvard, did you mean that Yale was bigger (better) than Harvard?

haha yeah, absolutely. the atmosphere is so awesome.

I’m definitely sending in a supplementary music CD. I’ve already got four of my teachers who offered to write my recommendations. I’m trying to stay on top of things so it won’t be such a frenzy in the fall. Retaking the SATs for a better score soon.

Also, does anyone know how the Tweed Airport in New Haven is? I have to take a flight there in the summer for Yale JSA. I’ve heard that it’s pretty sketchy?

Tweed airport is fine, just very small. It’s much more convenient than a large airport though - you don’t have to arrive until 5 minutes before boarding. There are many regular, low-cost flights to Philadelphia, Baltimore/Washington and others.

do you attend yale, posterx?

No, sorry, I don’t go there or work there. If you have questions about it, though, I’ve heard you can email the admissions office and they will put you in touch with various Yale undergrads.

There’s only so much anyone can really tell you on a chances thread. The best I (or anyone) can say is that Yale is a realistic goal for you, but it’s always a challenge to get into such an amazing school. Try to write creative essays that express something interesting about your personality. Applying early doesn’t hurt either. Other than that, just hope for the best, and don’t pay CC too much heed.
