Yale letter - number above name?

Hi,

I just got a letter from Yale based on my ACT scores explaining about the college and information about the University, etc. In the letter above my name was a two digit number.

Anyone else ever get such a letter, and if so ever find out / know what the numbers above the name mean?

Little strange, and just curious about why it’s there.

marketing.

No idea what the number is for, but above is correct.

Those with two digits are on the “expected to admit” list.

Those with three digits are from the “possible” to admit list

Those with four digits are from the “unless your name is Emma Watson, don’t apply list”

or not.

You had me there for a minute.

And thanks, I assumed as such but was merely curious if it had some sort of value beyond just generic marketing.

;)

Sorry but I had to have some fun with you. Good luck if you apply!

yeah no worries - well except from looking at some of the decline applications…

My son received a letter from Yale Undergrad Admissions. He did do well on the ACT and AP Exams.
Is the letter pure marketing or do they target specific students?

pure marketing

Your son’s score put him in a certian range and now, your mail carrier will curse you for the reams of brochures and catalogs he’ll receive.

The only targeted recruiting they would do would be coaches looking for high achieving and talented athletes.

Congrats, however

Yeah it’s a false hope - looks fancy on the fridge though!

best of luck to your son - well actually i may take that back as he’s competition.
