Yale Letters of Recommendation

So, for some background, I graduated from high school and am currently a visiting student at a university (meaning my credits aren’t matriculated). I have two recommendations from my bosses from two important internships but can not assign recommenders because it is only a teacher tab only. How should I approach this because I do not know my professors well enough at my current university (and it is too close to the deadline) and my past ones from my senior year don’t represent me properly.

You should telephone Yale Admissions and ask if you qualify for freshman application or transfer application. I’m concerned because Yale has specific instructions on their website for students currently enrolled in college coursework, REGARDLESS of matriculation status: https://admissions.yale.edu/transfer-application-instructions

Yale is an academic institution and wants to know HOW well you perform in the classroom – not how well you did in your internship. Are you the kind of student who always has their hand raised with thoughtful insights and questions? Are you a leader of classroom discussions? Or, are you the kind of student who knows the answer to the question, but who needs to be called upon? How does your writing skills compare to other students in the classroom? How about your math skills? Those are the questions Admissions needs answers to, and unfortunately your intern recommendations cannot answer those specific questions.

So, you have two choices: (1) get two college professors from one of the courses you are taking as a visiting student to write you a LoR, or (2) get two of your HS teachers to write you LoR’s.

FWIW: Your internships recommendations can function as supplementary ref’s, but CANNOT function as the two required teacher recommendations: https://admissions.yale.edu/who-should-write-my-teacher-recommendations

If you cannot follow directions and DO NOT submit the required materials, Yale will consider your application as “in-complete.”

You have a slightly different situation (and I’m not sure why, what this accomplishes for you.) But you need to be the sort who learns what the college expects, offers that thinking. A quick Google:

“Through experience, admissions officers have found that letters from junior or senior year teachers are the most illuminating. Yale does not encourage supplemental letters of recommendation. Those considering a supplemental letter of recommendation should first read Supplementary Materials-Extra Recommendations.”
