I just heard some very confusing news. A violinist at my school said she got a full ride to yale in this year’s college admissions for violin. I thought Ivies gave out only need-based scholarships? Can someone please clarify?

Perhaps it was an outside scholarship? Yale’s Graduate music program is full ride for admittees – is there any way she could have qualified for that? If it’s Yale College – then she’s lying. Yale College only gives FA (which hasn’t even been released) and need-based grants.

exactly. the only thing that is merit full-ride is yale’s GRADUATE program.

I bet she has FA confused with a merit scholarship. If she was admitted in the SCEA round, she would have received an estimated FA package.

Yale also doesn’t have an undergraduate conservatory…you’re not admitted on a particular instrument. Sending in a good tape could help, but EVERYONE is a student in Yale college. Also, there are no merit scholarships undergrad.
