thanks for the advice jacobswannabe. i’m going to have to find something or the other highly engaging so that i dont spend the entire day refreshing my email.

): Well, maybe I’ll be waitlisted? There’s a post in the round 1 forum that says that he was deferred without an interview, and is a polisci major like me, so here’s to hoping.

I am making myself prepared for rejection… I will hate deferral as that would be of no use to me for I will be forced to send a reply to one of the US colleges I’ve been accepted to…

@rew2402: apathy and an expection of rejection helps lessen the blow if it does happen, but keep the DREAM alive. You never know until you get it.

@Jacobwannabe. i really doubt they’ll defer to next round
they’ll either waitlist at most.

@thesmiter, did you get your interview call yet? and i can understand that. but ready for the rejection.
no Yale-NUS. No Yale.
BUT YALE IS MY DREAM SCHOOL FOR 4 YEARS. easy thing said than done, forgetting it. :

@rew2402: No, I didn’t receive an interview even though I feel like I’m qualified enough for one. Maybe I’m just not interesting enough, or my GPA is too low, or my SAT score isn’t high enough, or maybe this school is even more selective than the Ivy League…

Trust me, I know how it feels. I had my heart set on Oxford. And I didn’t even end up applying. I can’t afford it. And knowing that I couldn’t go to my dream school meant that the rest of my applications were like, 75% of my max effort at best. :/

woah. i know the feeling :
see, i think i am (really) good candidate for Yale, but this one ACT score of mine doesnt even match the lower score range of the accepted students of 2016 (not even close), but other than that, i think i am a good candidate, judging from their past intakes from the same country.
but alas, they aint even that holistic!

I am not an excellent student, higher than average IB score, but far lower than others in singapore. They really look at you essays. Every single answers counted and this should likely reflect in some ways in the activities you listed. Your answers on the app should reflect you, what you do and what you like.

Even if you know you are good, your application is some sort of examination for getting Yale Nus interviews. Unfortunately the interview counts a lot for YN cause’ of the small class size, they really are picky to get the best personalities. I am already so so disappointed with myself since the interview. :(

^ now that I think about my interviews, I think that I didn’t put myself properly enough as to deserve the admission. However, that might be the pressure and the anxiety talking. :P

I am not interviewed either. I have pretty low SAT CR score. So maybe that made them turn away from me.

Someone above said that our essays and answers on the app should reflect us. I applied through shared Yale option and my Yale app was engineering-focused. This also might have made a difference!

For the record, can we get some stats, people? For the next class/round, so that they can perhaps see some kind of pattern as who gets an interview and who doesn’t, at least.

Unweighted GPA (or equivalent): 3.83 UW (4.77W)
SAT (breakdown): 790 CR 690 M 800 W 2280 total for best score, my lowest score is still 2100+
ACT: Did not submit
APs: All 5s, Chem, Euro, US History, Psych, Lang, Human Geo
Senior Courses: All APs, Comp/US Gov, Physics C, Calc BC, English Lit, Macro/Microecon, World History
Essays: (mine are for Yale) wrote about why I love history, who inspired me to love history, and why I want to teach it. CA essay was about my exchange program and how it changed my worldview.
Extracurriculars: president of an exchange program, varsity debate, latin club president, honor society, peer mentor, peer tutoring
Community Service: 2000+ hours at a community center over 5 years, Head Intern. It’s actually part of the reason why I don’t have as many ECs.

I’m bummed I don’t even stand a chance. Statwise, my UW GPA is a bit on the low side, but my WGPA is astronomical (I didn’t even know it was that high until recently), my APs look great, courseload is the most difficult of anybody in my year, ECs are a bit lacking, but still relatively strong. I only wish that I wrote more about my exchange program, because holy cow I devote so many hours to it now it’s not even funny. Community service is outstanding, but because we’re a small nonprofit, it’s not like we have any awards or anything to give.

@thesmiter, when I see your GPA, Scores and ECs and your genuine passion for history, I feel so much shocked on the fact you didn’t receive an interview offer… It would be a grotesque disgrace to even post my stats alongside yours in the same CC page…
