Thanks Fog Fog, my daughter also has a corner suite, in Vandy. Also thanks to the others that have responded to my question.

Last year the Blue Book mailed to our home didn’t arrive until just before the parent weekend. Needless to say, it wasn’t all that helpful at that point.

Thanks YaleMom16, although my daughter will not be in LW housing, I am sure the information about the fire doors will be useful.

Does anybody know when the FOOT trip would show up on the student account?

My son is assigned to a 5 people suite in Vandy. There are 3 singles and 1 double in the suite, and my son will be in a double with another student. Is the “single vs. double” assignment random? My son doesn’t recall indicating his preference anywhere for that.
He is not complaining but a single BR would be nicer…

^Don’t know if this is just coincidence, but the kids in my son’s freshman suite who got the singles were SCEA admits (one was an athlete) and the ones who got doubles were Regular admits. I’m 99% sure there was no place to indicate preference on the housing questionnaire.

It is just luck of the draw. In my son’s suite they had 4 singles and a double freshman year. He ended up in a single but they never asked him either way. He can always check with the other suite mates to see if any of them prefer a double. I don’t know which house your son is in but in Morse most of the suites are 6-8 person suites with most of them doubles so he may need to get used to sharing a room in future years if he stays on campus.

For what it’s worth: My freshman was in a suite last year that consisted of a small single (his) and a colossal double. Singles are nice for privacy of course, but the kids in the double had a huge room to be envied!

It also sounds like the suite is at the basement level. What does that mean? No windows? I really don’t know what to expect…

I think the single/double assignment is random (it’s possible that some people might get singles for medical or other reasons). My kids were both admitted SCEA, and one was in a double, and the other was in a single.

Basement suites have ground level (barred) windows (I know this is true for Farnam, because I lived in one–and I think for Vanderbilt as well).

We had a friend last year (at a different college) who had a two singles + one double suite. Halfway through the year they switched spots. Maybe something like that could be agreed upon in your case?

This does happen sometimes, but it usually doesn’t, because it’s a hassle to move all your stuff, and you get used to being in the double. It usually only occurs when the people in the double can’t get along, and other nice people agree to go into the double to make peace.

Can someone also tell me how’s the basement level suite like in Vandy? BR at underground level… doesn’t sound too nice. Hope it’s not dark, damp or cold…

The basement suite we had in Farnam was awesome. Hopefully somebody can reassure you about the Vandy ones.

^and look on the bright side, you didn’t get LDub… ;)

K1 assigned to double at Farnum basement with private bath. Do they have common room? How big is the room?

My son recalls–but he’s not sure–that it’s a good-sized room, but does not have a common room.

YaleMomFromCA, if you PM me the room number I can tell you if it’s the one my son was in last year – he was in a double in the basement at Farnam. But there is more than one. If it’s the same one, I can give you lots of detailed information. DS did have a small common room, but it was very odd – horseshoe shaped with with a fire door.

Can anyone give me the skinny on LW 53?

^Here’s a thread from 2009, I don’t know if it’s been renovated since then:
