Yale Parents thread

@gibby‌
Both our incomes are so volatile cause we both earn commissions only. My income has dropped this year so far by almost $23K, my husband’s is up but I’m sure not that much.

^^ Unfortunately, financial aid calculations are anything but transparent, but it sounds like you might make less in 2014, so your aid will likely increase.

OK, so does anyone know about Commencement weekend NEXT year (2016)?

Are any of your DC headed up to see the game tomorrow & partake in all the weekend festivities? Mine left today with about 6 friends. They were able to get tickets and are very excited!

My son took a bus with friends tonight! They will stay in a Harvard dorm, and see the game on Saturday. I’m excited for him!

DD didn’t take the bus…she had previously planned to but they decided to take the train up! She has a Harvard host as well. Very exciting stuff.

We had been looking forward to seeing DS sooner, but he’s so excited about the game that we will just have to wait :slight_smile: He took a bus and I sure hope he has one coming back. He will probably sleep on a dorm floor, but who knows, he might find better accomodations.

My guess is that they have futons! Like most suites have. Or so we should hope. But I really don’t think they care! Remember when we were 18 & 19? Lolol

My DS is playing with band, so he gets to stay in a hotel.

@IxnayBob‌

At least your child is coming home. I suspect that mine will be on campus with her friends most of the week. Only to pop in for her Thanksgiving favorites on Thursday. She may have to sleep in her own bed by default because she may not be able to walk!! Lolol

@NewHavenCTmom‌ , when I say coming home, I’m not sure that it’s that different to your situation. There are many HS friends he hasn’t seen since school began, so I expect that he will be with them except for Thanksgiving day itself. Maybe we will be lucky and they’ll spend some time at our house :).

Penn, where many of DS’s friends attend, has break only from Thursday - Sunday (27-30). I expect Friday to Sunday to include less sleep than I’d like :)

My D is there. Hanging with friends there and others that are there for the game from their high school. Quite a reunion. She performs tonight with Yale Steppin’ Out. Then home tomorrow. Can’t wait to see her. Thanksgiving is our favorite holiday.

Righ. Who needs a bed at that age? If memory serves me, there won’t be much sleeping anyway.

Ouch, that was a painful Game. DS has managed to go through all 4 years without witnessing a win against Harvard… :((

It sounds like it was a very close game and exciting at that!

I am hopeful for next year, sigh, since it is a pretty young team. My youngest went 4 years without a win, oldest had a win his freshman year (the last time Yale won against Harvard) but that was that. My youngest now lives in Boston and had a great time seeing old Yalie friends today, even with the loss.

DS went 4 years without a win as well.

I believe he went to the game yesterday as well. I even did not ask him what he would do in Boston. What else would he do in Boston yesterday?!

At least it was a more exciting game this year.

Actually, DS was not able to actually get a ticket to the game, but attended the tailgate and joined other Yalies without tickets in a nearby pub to watch the game. Oh, definitely more exciting this time around–there were years that went by without even much to cheer about.

DS was able to get some scalped tickets via friend at H, for ~$70 vs ~$150 at Y.

Son’s friend is a freshman at H, very nice kid, but apparently freshman boys at H don’t have an easy time of it socially. DS and friends decided to invite him to Y, but maybe wait until next year’s game because he might get depressed at how much more friendly Y is. :)

My rather unassuming DD simply walked in without a ticket yesterday!
