@Faulkner1897 Thanks a lot
@ragudba - I read on last year’s thread that students often keep the doors propped and continue moving out beyond the 12 pm deadline. Experienced parents cautioned to never let a single thing out of sight as leaving things unattended (assuming outside of the dorms) often leads to the items being taken. Also, the residential colleges have their own rules and drop off windows for the items that are allowed to be stored in the college or the student’s room next year.
@tonymom Renting an event room at Mory’s or one of the hotels might be another option. Also I wonder if there are any party spaces available at the race venue?
@tonymom I second @canoe2015’s suggestion re: Mory’s. I’d give them a call and discuss your needs - you might even be able just to congregate in the bar and patio, weather permitting, without renting a space. Website is morysclub.org.
@canoe2015 @DeepBlue86
You don’t think Morys would be too crowded on a Friday night?
I’m not sure but the folks at Mory’s should have a good sense based on your group size. Obviously if you decide to book a room then only your group will be in that area.
@tonymom go to the bar at Morys. It has oars all over the ceiling and walls and would be a very fitting place to meet.
@tonymom : When my son graduated in 2015, a few parents banded together and rented the ballroom at the Union League Cafe for a stand-up reception of cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. For a party of 30, the clubroom would work: http://unionleaguecafe.com/private-events/
DD back on campus to finish junior year strong!! I really love the adult that she is becoming (will be 21 in less than 60 days). Can’t wait for summer when I will have her for 3 whole months!!
@Tperry1982 I don’t know how strong my kid is feeling. She got home from her world traveling and asked to come home and sleep in her own bed for a night with her cat. She stalled going back as late as I could handle driving home yesterday and now she has jet lag. All in all she is going to have an interesting Monday.
Roia would be another nice place for an event.
@Memmsmom - I feel for your daughter. The schedule of 2nd semester has been harder than 1st, with no real breaks (before spring break) and no long weekends to catch up. It sounds like your daughter was on the go the entire spring break so she must be exhausted!
@Faulkner1897 Yes, she did homework on the plane but not all of it because some had to be done with wifi available. She messaged me all miserable today because on top of jet lag, the shuttle didn’t stop and get her so she had to walk in the rain up science hill. I don’t think it helps that the weather is blah today. Makes for crabby mood swings. LOL.Once the sun comes back and the end is in sight, she will cheer up. Maybe there is a thing to the term “sophomore slump”.
@Memmsmom - don’t get me wrong. She is dreading the work load for the next few weeks. Even though she doesn’t need it, she took 5.5 credits this semester -those daily language classes are a killer along with Constitutional Law. She was loving being home in her bed and didn’t really want to go back. She’ll be home on May 11 and then hopefully a summer to rest and determine what she wants to do after graduation.
Jealous of those that got to see their kids over spring break! But happy for my son for all the travel opportunities. He got back to campus this morning, then right back to classes and rehearsals. Not sure when he sleeps but I spoke to him and the jet lag hasn’t hit (yet). The joys of being young! Hope they all stay strong and healthy for 5-6 more weeks!
Is it just me or is anyone else surprised how quiet the whole admissions thread was this year considering a greater acceptance rate? There isn’t even a stats thread going yet. I’m a little disappointed because I love seeing the excitement and hearing the stories.
Also one of my daughters good friends was accepted to Princeton EA and Harvard RD but denied Yale. Where are all of the acceptances? It just feels disappointing.
@Memmsmom, I think perhaps all the posts about cracking the admissions portal early (the pigeon entrails reading crowd) turned off the sane applicants. I’m a diehard Yale CC reader, and they strained my patience and interest, so I can only imagine what it did to others.
Interesting that Yale seems to have a number of accepted students who have a large gap in FA versus peer institutions. I am closely following, via PM (he hasn’t posted publicly), one student I’d hate to see choose H over Y because of FA. There are others who have posted publicly about the issue.
I am excited about this thread. Quads got into Yale and got great aid, and are leaning towards attending!
@IxnayBob - I’m not following what you’re saying about the gap in FA. Clarify?
@Community2605, I might be mistaken, but it seems to me that there are more posts regarding less FA in the (initial) Yale offer than from peer institutions than in the past. I generally don’t pay much attention to this, but this year I have a vested interest in one applicant whose FA offer is considerably less than the offer from Harvard.
This might be par for the course. I haven’t searched on Harvard’s threads to see if there are also kids who got more generous offers from Yale than H.
I admit that it might be nothing more than my being attuned for the first time.
