The cheapest and most convenient place is staying in one of the RCs. Dorm style accommodations of course, but three nights for $144/person this year. Y starts sending out information in Nov.

The La Quinta near IKEA is less expensive than hotels close to campus, it has free parking and a shuttle that will take you up to campus.

Thanks DeBruns.
We had read about the proposed changes in the YDN when the Administration and cmte were discussing it.
Always good to hear from current Eli parents.

Hello all, My D got into Yale SCEA and we are sending her to Bull Dog Days in April. She’s arriving by train and I am just wondering the best way for her to get to the campus from the train station. Basically just have concerns about safety, young girl traveling alone. (I know nervous mom but have found in past that bus stations can be sketchy in any city.) Any advice?

Yale runs shuttle buses from Union Station to campus at regular intervals, and more frequently for Bulldog Days. She won’t be alone - there’ll be plenty of other prospective Elis on the train. :)

Thanks Booklady, she assured me there were shuttles, glad to hear there are lots of them and that there should be plenty of students around! She is excited to go!

Congratulations to your daughter!
I had actually accompanied my son to Bulldog Days last year. Let me quickly point out this wasn’t necessary and I really didn’t see him at all after he checked in, but I hadn’t visited the school (I had visited once about 18 years ago, but I’m not counting that ) and figured I go along then. I’d say that less than 50% of the kids had a parent with them.
Anyway, we took the train and there were quite a few prospective students at the train station - they’re easy to spot - so there was plenty of company while waiting for the shuttle. Since that time I’ve also taken cabs when going to campus; it’s a short ride, inexpensive (under $10 including tip) and I’ve never had a bad experience. In fact, I’ve always had safe, friendly drivers (my favorite was the 86 year old retired Italian-American stone mason who was driving a cab in his retirement.)
One other aside - a friend’s daughter went to visit Yale a couple of weekends ago and arrived alone at the station at about 10:00 at night. She took a cab and had no problems.
She’ll have a great time at Bulldog Days!

my2sunz. Thanks for the information. Would love to go as well but live in Europe (we are Americans) Funny I am not worried about sticking her on a plane by herself but worry about her getting 10 minutes across town. She will be flying into Boston staying with her brother or sister (who are at Harvard) then coming back afterwards for the weekend when my husband will meet her as he will be there for the marathon on the 18th. I guess I will tell her to take a cab if she doesn’t see the shuttle or other kids waiting for it although the shuttle sounds more fun. We will have a fun family rivalry if she goes!
Bay, don’t you have children in Harvard as well as Yale? How is the family rivalry going, my older son and daughter had all sorts of t-shirts they brought home over the holidays from Harvard/Yale games and things, was fun to listen to them go back and forth! Some of the t-shirts were quite clever, would love to see some of the Yale t-shirts regarding Harvard!

I told my husband, be prepared for more tuition costs this year, that and one scholarship my daughter had was 1 year. (nice but only a reprieve) : )

The family rivalry really makes the H-Y rivalry even more meaningful and lots of fun. The first year we attended the game, we tried to be neutral (me, by wearing purple - Y blue + H Crimson ), but now we think it works better to alternate and root for the home team. We didn’t see the Y t-shirts last game because everyone was in jackets and sweatshirts and we were seated across the stadium from the Y student section.

Traditionally, how helpful is the fin aid office…
We have errors and changes for Profile…
Still have the IDOC to do–and with the taxcode changes to sched A etc…have needed to wait…

I found them to be pretty nice, didn’t have a lot of questions, etc. but they even let me know they received a fax once when many colleges said they were way too busy to check. Might have just caught them on a good day though.

I’ve called them a few times and have found them to be very nice and helpful each time. For fr admissions most people have to make corrections to the Profile. And if your child got in EA, it’s pretty much expected that you’ll have to make changes as you would have had little or no tax information in Nov.

My son was accepted into Yale SCEA and I have a question regarding the first choice school for NMF. He put down our state school as first choice. Now we think he’ll go to Yale. Should we contact NMcorp to switch that to Yale so he can be considered for the $2500 scholarship? Is it true if he is considered for the state school, then he will not be in the pool for the $2500?

He doesn’t need to change his designation to Y in order to be considered for the 2.5k NM scholarship. It doesn’t matter what their designation is, all finalists are considered. And if he gets it, he can use it at any school.

entomom is correct. We didn’t switch my D’s first choice college until July or so. Didn’t matter- Yale still got the money. I think there is a form that they send you by default asking you where to send the money.

fogfog-we have found the Yale financial aid office to be extremely helpful.

Many people are in the same boat you are with the changes in Schedule A. I’m sure they will be very understanding about that. They might have you fax the changes directly to them instead of going through IDOC.

We actually applied for financial aid 9 months! after the deadline for continuing students this year (long story) but they were as nice as could be.
