Yale ques, NOT a chance thread

I am a rising senior and about an average applicant for the Ivy leagues. My question is how much would starting a JSA chapter (a youth political organization) and helping out with a local municipal campaign affect my chances at admission? Would this constitute a “hook”, as my interests lie strongly in politics, and if not, how much does it help? Also, I know Yale stresses how much it looks into what the applicant can add to the yale community, so would my political interest be a hindrance or a plus b/c of how politically active its students already are? What’s an example of a good addition to the community? Also, does my being 4th in my class (out of 340) hurt my chances too much at Yale? Should my essays focus on my interest in government/econ or on another topic intentionally altogether like math or anything?

(JUST FOR CONTEXT IF YOU WANT, other stats include: gpa W: 4.83.
UW: 3.99; sat1600: 1570; sat2400: 2300; math2:800, Phys:770; chem:790; US history AP:5.

VP of student council, School Senator, possible varsity letter in cross country, also Jazz band and Tri- M music honors soc, some volunteer work here and there,…awards: history/social sciences award from school, national merit semifinalist)

No… they won’t help to much. Don’t try to match your intended interests to your essay. No, rank should not hurt you. Forget how you can “add” to the Yale community, you’re overthinking the whole thing. Just be yourself and I’m sure you’ll get into somewhere stellar.

k thank you

I didn’t read your whole first paragraph but I saw how you where thinking about making a JSA. If we both get accepted, I’m sooo down! :)
