So I got the YSEA Award for a science fair project.

Has anyone gotten it before?/Does anyone have any idea what kind of bearing this would have on a SCEA app?

It seems the YSEA is an organization of Yale alumni.

YSEA is an alumni association that promotes Yale with the larger engineering community. They, like various alumni clubs will occasionally offer awards to local HS students. It’s a form of PR work on behalf of Yale. While nice to be recognized, they are similar to the various “book awards” that other Juniors at your school might receive. There’s no special nod you’d get from Yale besides the fact that you’re probably an accomplished scholar – which is borne through by your other accomplishments. The answer to your question is that it would have practically no bearing on your app.

Congrats however and best of luck w/your app.

ouch, thanks for the heads up…I was kind of hoping it would be more legitimately recognized than a book award.

still though, do you think if I were to put in down in my awards section, it would, at the very least, show a degree of “dedication” to Yale?

It’s a good award to put down. As for showing “dedication” to Yale, nothing screams more than what you’re already doing: applying SCEA. The fact that a tangentally Yale-related organization noticed you won’t mean a thing, IMHO.

You’ll do fine. Best of luck to you.

ic…makes sense, thanks!

although for SCEA, with schmarvard and p-ton getting rid of their earlies, you never know :)
