FYI. From YDN: Over 70 QuestBridge Scholars to join Yale’s class of 2028 - Yale Daily News
An advantage a legacy may have in the more subjective areas considered in the decision is in articulating “fit” (both theirs with the school and the school with them), especially if the parents are active alums. They will likely be more aware of school culture, history and tradition and tie that into the school specific essays and short answers.
On a different note, other than interviews. Has anyone’s portal info changed in the last couple of days? My child only had one update so far. FA never asked for new documents since we submitted CSS in mid-October; there was just a date change next to each document. Two weeks later the date changed next to each document to the end of October. That has been all the activity so far. Not expecting any more updates at this point. No interview. Does anyone know if there will be more activity on the portal a few days before Dec 14? Maybe like not letting you access the portal at a certain point?
Same. I submitted the docs 1-2 weeks before the deadline and the date changed to the end of October.
If Fin aid portal shows all the documents as received, I think they have everything they need. FA will reach out only if any documents are missing.
It looks like they’re processing Non-custodial parent waiver requests, anyone with update?
Friend who also did REA pointed this out but 1040 is gone on FA tab
No when did you apply for one? I am still waiting, uploaded 11/23
Mine did show two missing forms under FA tabs on 11/29. I submitted everything through CSS in mid-October and all FA forms marked “received” dated 10/31. But two new missing forms appeared last week, and no email received regarding this. One of them is not even applied to us. I uploaded the other one through CSS, but nothing shown updated on portal.
Maybe call them?
Slightly before the deadline. You’ll just have to wait.
My son received a meeting request on Tuesday morning. He completed the meeting in the evening. My soon is international student. We do not know any other student from his school had an interview.
my son had one this week.
@prairiefairydc At my DC area private school we had no legacy admits from what I can tell. Potentially one athletic recruit but other wise very high stats.
We choose interview date and time from a list like calendarly .did they gave you 9 dec
what status the FA tab should show for the submitted financial aid documents? ‘received’ or ‘completed’? It shows received for us, should those documents be changed to ‘completed’ or another status at some point when it is processed?
Has anyone heard anything about that may change around legacy admissions? This article says their practices are under consideration.
All I know is there was still a legacy preference this cycle, and I have not seen any indication it was modified this cycle specifically in light of the controversy. But then again, much is in flux for all sorts of reasons, which could be intersecting with legacy admissions this cycle in a variety of ways.
Going forward, I have not seen anything about future cycles since they said it was under review. Just reading between the lines a bit, I saw them as in the camp that is cautious about eliminating legacy admissions just when the notably more diverse classes of the past are starting to generate more legacy applications. But I suspect these colleges are going to collect a lot of data this cycle that will inform those deliberations.
Received.
No change in policy this year. My feeling is that this will unlikely change. Yale will be able to maintain its diversity through other measures. Reducing legacies merely will substitute some high achieving kids from upper middle class/affluent families for others.
