A top college’s legacy policy was born before Internet when applicants or parents had a hard time to obtain information. But at current AI stage, coupled with all the information posted online, Lagacy Policy sticking to one particular college like Yale has lost a lot of sense. Currently a student can easily apply for 25 top colleges, as one MIT senior AO said. Based on the explosive application numbers, the legacy policy will fade out automatically. Anyway Yale must focus on its own competitiveness and perpetuity, not only serving legacies. As more and more students apply, the yield will keep going down over time for any top college, almost across the board. Legacies will be mingled with all other applicants, except for a few those who have exceptional contributions to Yale over time.
do you know if this means anything
do yall think a 16% class rank would drag me down i received an interview so im praying my stats passed based on the “initial review” theory but idk… please send help!!! Big thanks.
– From an anxious, really anxious teen as the REA decision approaches
Class ranks as reported by schools don’t necessarily mean much, depending on the context. If you challenged yourself and did well with the most rigorous classes available to you, you did what they ask.
Hey all! So my interviewer emailed me on Monday to schedule for Friday or Saturday. I replied the same day (it shows as sent in my inbox) with my availability. I received a second email yesterday from my interviewer saying he doesn’t see a response and asking for my availability again tomorrow. I sent a second response, but have still not heard back. I am afraid that my messages are going to his spam or something, since both my replies have gone through on my end. What can I do in this situation?
prob search him on the internet and try to find alternative emails or phone numbers. You could also try to use institutional emails with edu or org smth like that so it wouldnt end up in spam
Reach out to admissions. If by email, CC the interviewer. At the very minimum it will go in your file that you got back to him.
Is there no phone number in the email?
It’s been 20 days and IDOC still did not process my documents. Is that normal?
took from oct 30 to nov 19 for me
For schools like Yale, attracting the highest quality students and being competitive in any cross admission faceoff is not an issue with or without legacy preference. The reason why Yale and others may get rid of this preference is sufficient public pressure (or government or court intervention) that overcomes anticipated alumni blowback and possible disengagement. As long as Yale and others can maintain current levels of racial, socioeconomic and geographic diversity notwithstanding the SCOTUS decision, I don’t think there will be enough public pressure for them to risk their relationship with alums in the near future.
no ngl i just know its gone
For those who care about this Fall’s enrollment numbers (and the Class of 2027 yield rate) at Yale. I wish you all good luck with your applications.
I know portal astrology probably doesn’t mean anything, but I’m just really anxious. Can someone send what their portal looks like? I have the following items, all with the date 10/31/2023 except the CSS which is 10/23/2023, and Student’s 2022 Tax Return which is not required.
CSS Profile Application
Parents’ 2022 W-2 Form(s)
Parents’ 2022 Schedule 1

Same. Mine are marked 11/24. It doesn’t mean anything since yours are very very early. We can’t infer, but we’ll know Thursday if it means anything !!!
It doesn’t mean anything. There’s no way they could accept anyone before the application deadline?!
Just finished interview! 1 hour long, great discussion. He talked more about Yale than I expected him to, even when I hadn’t asked a question. Said that he would strongly recommend me, but I know that chances are still slim. Didn’t get any curveball questions, just pretty straightforward discussions of my ECs, career plans, academic interests, and research.
Same here. But when I click on the Verification Statement of Household Information, it opens a blank template with no information filled in. I believe this is the document signed through docusign in IDOC. Is it an issue?
Same thing here. Not an issue
Best wishes! I have a good feeling that you might get in. You have excellent qualifications (ECs+GPA+Test scores) but you also sound confident, yet humble, which I noticed with most students who got into Yale last year. I don’t mean to get your hopes up unnecessarily, as I could be completely wrong, but hoping for the best. All the very best!
