When I go to the portal it now takes me to an “application management page” that says 2024 EA and then it says “start new application” at the bottom. Does anyone know what’s up with that? It just started happening for me.
Not for me
Why is there a significant difference in the duration of the interviews? I am hearing some interviews scheduled for 30 minutes and some for 1 to 3 hours. Is it at the discretion of the alumni / interviewer or is it because of some kind of a guideline from AO? Does it mean anything? Sorry there will be more questions on “does it mean anything” in this forum for the next few days
On Reddit there’s this girl who said she had a 3 hour conversation
However my interviewer cut me off right at 45min although I just got to ask one question. She was like “we are running short on time, any last questions?” And because she said that I just said I didn’t have any other questions and now I start to wonder if I sho’uldve asked one more question cuz she still gave me a chance to ask questions and whether that would reflect negatively on myself in her report
My interviewer followed the guideline a lot, in her email she specified no resume and stuff like her and she followed the 30-45min thing carefully too so I guess it really depends on the interviewer
Thank you so much! Fingers crossed.
Time is really at the discretion/style of the interviewer. Mine have run from 45 minutes to over an hour. Depends on how the conversation flows. I always ask the applicant if he/she has any last questions or information they want to share that we have not covered to conclude the interview.
My two cents is if you respond to such a question something like, “No, thank you, this has been very helpful,” that is the appropriate way to conclude an interview. You are basically telling the other person you are fine with them calling it to an end, which is good etiquette.
That happened to me as well. But does not anymore. Freaked me out. Is it permitting me to start new application bc the old application has been rejected was the thought that went through my head!
You make a good point. Everyone assumes legacy admissions only benefits affluent white people, but the student body at places like Yale has been increasingly diverse for decades now. First-gen and POC alums have kids who apply to Yale too.
Yes, if you poke around the conversations, you will find some people noting that legacy preferences seem to be coming under serious fire right when more diverse generations of legacies are applying. This also came up, for example, in the recent conversation the Dartmouth Dean had with the head of NACAC (the professional organization for college admissions officers and counselors) about legacy admissions.
Personally I am not sure that is a slam dunk argument for continuing them, but I do think Yale is very likely looking closely at how all these things are interacting this cycle, the first after the Supreme Court’s AA decision. Once there are a lot of moving parts, they can interact in sometimes surprising ways, and so it is possible a legacy preference combined with other things would in fact help colleges like Yale continue to track more diverse over time, even if on its own it would seem to be a lagging indicator.
does anyone else’s portal now have the “start new application” button? starting to think I didn’t get in
I don’t. Where exactly is it on the page? (BTW I really don’t think it is indicative of your decision, if anything it is probably just a glitch or means that you have A decision inputted)
Yes, signing in to check “admissions checklist” is bouncing people off to a slightly different page – the Application management page – where you do see this option to “start a new application”. I had this happen for a few hours the day before and to is back to normal again. Any portal astrology experts care to comment?
I don’t believe it means anything. I initially did not get the redirect, but I logged into the application management portal separately to see what y’all were saying and created an application for a non-degree student. I’m now redirected to that page because I have multiple applications open. All Yale undergrad applications in some way go through that page. I believe it only redirects you if you open up more than one application.
Furthermore, even when I’m in the nondegree application it auto-fills in information, if you go to the “application page” at least for me it says I haven’t previously applied to Yale which I think just means there isn’t a posted decision.
From our experience last year, I noticed Yale, Columbia and sometimes Cornell and Dartmouth are notorious for their constant portal updates/changes which creates a lot of anxiety/stress among applicants. In the end, those changes or updates didn’t mean a thing. I commend Harvard, Princeton and Stanford for not showing any portal changes or updates until the decision is released. It avoids unnecessary stress.
Agreed @Parent-in-Georgia! We will all know for sure in just about 100 hours.
I think I agree that it does not mean anything. But, the redirect is also for folks with just ONE application (like myself).
I don’t have the Verification thing… am i rejected? (I’m international)
