" … The Sterling Memorial Library in Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut is one that has constantly topped the list of best college libraries in America — and did again this week …" …
1–2 TOUR OF STERLING AND BASS LIBRARIES FOR FAMILIES. An introduction
to the libraries’ history, architecture, and collections. The tour will
begin inside the main entrance to Sterling Memorial Library on Rose
Walk, facing Cross Campus. Tours for freshmen will begin in midSeptember.
A schedule will be posted at web.library.yale.edu/people/
personal-librarian/library-tours.
Sterling is open to the public. I total renovation was just recently completed and it is more magnificent now than it was in the early 80’s when I was there. If you like libraries, also go to Beinecke Rare Book :Library. It is made of marble that the sun shines through on sunny days. One of the most breathtaking buildings on a campus of beautiful buildings.
@Tperry1982 Sadly Beinecke is closed for the next year. It is beautiful. It was one of the highlights of our tour when we visited before applying.
“The library’s iconic building is closed for renovation until September 2016. To access collection material, plan a visit to our temporary reading room in Yale’s Sterling Memorial Library.”
Yale’s libraries are even better than when Tperry and I were there, because the awful Cross Campus Library has been transformed into the beautiful Bass Library. It’s an underground library that is connected to Sterling.
I should add that all the residential colleges have their own libraries, which are also quite nice.
