Starting a thread for students waitlisted at Yale. From my research I found in 2021, the waitlist closed on May 14th, and 4 students were admitted from the waitlist. Last year the waitlist closed on May 5th, but no students were admitted. Can we please update this thread when decisions come out, or when anyone has any insight on the yield this year?
Not waitlisted at Yale but I saw a thread on r/A2C saying somebody got off the waitlist. Of course, since it is the internet (and especially since it is Reddit) you should probably take it with a huge grain of sodium chloride.
You may be right. Looking at Reddit, it seems like Yale has already selected someone from the waitlist, as the first round of phone calls took place on Friday. So far, I believe there has been one admission.
This year 773 people were offered a spot on the waitlist. In 2014, 769 people were waitlisted with 7 people accepted so it is very possible we may have a few more acceptances. If anyone finds anything else or wants to put what major they are please share
Admissions data going back before COVID is going to be pretty unreliable, especially going all the way back to 2014. A lot of things have changed since then, such as yield rates skyrocketing (MIT for instance used to admit 1700 applicants and then 50 more from the waitlist, now they admit just 1250 and haven’t gone above 32 from the waitlist in recent years).
True, the yield is different every year, sometimes even greater than anticipated. just thought that was a cool similar correlation.
Also this year Yale under-enrolled so better luck this year
How’d you figure out there was under-enrollment? Heard on A2C that the target was met… not entirely sure what to think anymore
It all comes down to yield. Last year they admitted 2,275 vs 2,146 this year. The first year class was 1,647 through yield and students who had deferred a year. The school generally shoots for an entering class of about 1,600. On top of this, Covid caused a bunching up of classes as students chose to defer and avoid the 2020-2021 school year, causing some space issues, especially for campus housing. That only gets worked through by 2025 (students originally accepted to start in 2020 deferring to 2021 graduating now in 2025 started with a class of 1,789).
Daughter received notification yesterday officially rejected from waitlist. They did send a thoughtful rejection letter though which was nice
