@cogitoergosum I completely agree with what @YaleGirll said… I think it’s unfair of you to assume we are all pretentious and self-absorbed. In fact, I see the program as a way for me to learn about things that I can apply to helping the world, which you (rightfully) think is very important. That, and the experience itself, were two huge motivating factors for me in applying.
As for @IvyMaybe, I’m sure if your gpa is good your psat scores won’t matter. And anyway, there is a median score (I believe it was 202 last year, but I could be wrong) for a reason! They accept people with a variety of scores, so I’m sure as long as you shined through with your grades, essays, and recs, you’ll be fine.
So true, I could feel the attitude of @CogitoErgoSum16 is so superior and it makes people in this discussion feels like stupid. I agree with other people that we have no shame in being exciting and waiting for the results. That’s human, we have already tried best in the application last few months and we deserve to know how well we did. Please don’t give that kind of tone. Besides, why are you posting those achievements of yours up? It doesn’t help anything. But anyway, congratulations. If you do not wait for the results, why did you track this post or this discussion?
Didnt the application say that taking standardized tests isnt mandatory??
@thegoldenage I did not assume that the rest of you did not already have other summer plans lined up, but I said that OVERstressing about this particular one it’s useless. I took part in a education fair a week ago as a delegate for my school in a ‘developing country’ and many of the families complained that there were not many volunteering clubs or non-profit organizations (NHS, Habitat for Humanity kind of ish) for their kids to be members of. A family from a developing country … complaining that there is no volunteering opportunity. Do you see the irony? (I come from a developing country myself so hands down) It’s kind of the same here. What I am saying is that teenagers like us, with our potentials, do not necessarily need to go to a prestigious summer school (even a prestigious university) to bring about real change. :)>-
@tryingforharvard your username dude … exactly what I was talking about :))
@YaleGirll I am sorry if my post offended you anyhow-somehow. What I said it’s not only about summer schools, but since you are commenting that part then let me elaborate it more. I am not saying to be passive or indifferent, I am just saying that things that we, the “well-rounded, talented and stellar students” should be passionate about should be much more important things than going to Connecticut for 2 weeks. But that’s just me. I also do not believe that you come from a country with more limited options than mine unless you live in developing African/ Asian/ post-USSR countries. So yeah… You also don’t have to apologize for anything indeed, but if you consider being ‘enthusiastic’ same as being ‘OMG IM GOING TO PUKE’ anxious then let’s just agree to disagree. <:-P
@Zaidy1 Yes, it did, which is why I regret putting in my horrible PSAT score :’(
Just a little curious @CogitoErgoSum16 … where are you from?
@IvyMaybe the website says that providing psat scores won’t hurt your app, they can only help. im sure youll be fine
@CogitoErgoSum16 C’mon now u gotta admit that there is a decent amount of value to getting into YYGS or some program at some other place similar to Yale past what you actually learn. Also, there is a good amount of value to going to a name brand college thats an ivy league school or something like that beyond the classroom and what you actually learn. Those schools can offer opportunities and open some doors that others can’t. It definitely doesn’t define you and going to yale doesn’t mean that you will be successful, but what’s wrong with wanting to go to a name brand school and wanting to have a good job where you make a good amount of money?
@calmdown21 … one of the reasons is because we’re talking of a summer programs and those two are summer programs. another one is so other rising juniors can see what they can do next year. another one is so other people who need it can see which additional programs offer full scholarships. calm down calmdown21.
@Zephyrean yeah it’s normal I guess. As I said, I feel stressed as well … but not overstressed. Not ‘checking my email every 15 min stressed’ or ‘im going to vomit’ stressed. And about diplomacy … I truly don’t care. This is an online forum… I can be totally honest and not care :)) . Who want’s to can see the message that I’m trying to convey… who doesn’t… well ‘show must go on’.
@shooting4stars @yowaytogo your message were similar/ the same thus I’m going to give you the same reply.
I am not belittling you, or showing my superiority- after all, I don’t know you and you don’t know me. All I can say, is for you to go back to my first post and read it again. If you still have the same thoughts that I can elaborate more upon request. "Open your eyesss echo… "
@Zaidy1 Im from the country in which Voldemort went to recover to. riddlelylylylyly haha
@CogitoErgoSum16 dude im chill i don’t need to calm down lol. I get your point about putting the other stuff up but the reasoning you now give was not apparent at all in your original post. It almost could only come off as bragging lol
@calmdown21 There is nothing wrong with that. I appreciate you’re honesty.
" C’mon now u gotta admit that there is a decent amount of value to getting into YYGS or some program at some other place similar to Yale past what you actually learn." Not really, no. Generally speaking, through life only some people get fed with an empty spoon, be that from Harvard or Yale or Hogwarts (ok maybe not Hogwarts, Hogwart’s cool).
P.S : I know you’re chill, it just seems so right to say calm down because of your surname, so … calm down calmdown21.
Albania?
@cogitoergosum16 You can’t assume that just because we’re passionate about attending YYGS we’re not passionate about anything else. I’m an immigrant in Saudi Arabia, and there are virtually no extra-curriculars here for females - and maybe even males - unless you have enough money to send your kid to a fancy school that offers all those things, and even less so for immigrants. I won’t even be able to attend YYGS if they don’t offer me sufficient financial aid. So you can see how I’d take offense to being called a spoiled teenager.
I can agree to disagree, but saying “OMG IM GOING TO PUKE” to convey anxiety isn’t really that over the top. It’s pretty common to hear that even before exams, or whatever else a person gets nervous about. Because you said you weren’t only talking about summer schools, I know that some people only apply to Ivies for their name, but there are also a lot of people who apply because they’ve researched the program and think it would be a great fit for them. There’s no need to come here and ask people to tone it down, for whatever reason. Live and let live, man.
@tryingforharvard thanks for your counselling xD… no, but seriously, thanks. I feel so much better now
@CogitoErgoSum16 not a big fan of Harry Potter
@CogitoErgoSum16 dude you don’t think that you most likely will have a better chance at getting a scholarship or getting into a university you want to get into because you have a busy summer doing prestigious things over someone who doesn’t do much or things that seem of much lesser value? You don’t think that some place may say, “yale saw value in this kid, maybe we should give him a closer look”. Sure there are cases when this doesn’t hold, some people fall through the cracks. But it definitely gives some advantage over others
Wait so @livingitup are you sure they said by the end of today?
Oh, and if you guys could maybe help out in my thread, that would be nice http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/summer-programs/1762868-any-summer-programs-that-suits-me.html#latest
Sorry if I’m not allowed to comment this, but this post is relevant to the topic so please excuse me.
@BananaChips yes…they lied to me
