Yale Young Global Scholars 2015- Results

Took 9 days and two emails to hear back from them on a simple question about the waitlist, disappointing to say the least.

@ntnationa Hey :smiley:

Well, @anchen already said everything I would say. These summer programs should be more for your entertainment and academic/ intellectual development than to get you in a good college. Comparing YYGS with the Stanford Summer school I would say look at these aspects: FINANCIAL, acceptance rates, course material etc. ‘Prestigious’ would not be a word I would use for any summer program, as in the end they’re just summer programs. In the end, if you care so much about your college app, the summer program will not significantly affect your application. Unfortunately the US uni. applications can be a bit ridiculous as they weight a lot explicitly stupid things such as the SAT too much, and they might not care as much about different aspects of you app even though they ‘have no SAT minimum score’ and their applications are totally ‘holistic’ and they ‘care more about your personal unique interests and hobbies’ (BS). So yeah…

Thank you very much @CogitoErgoSum16 ! I was just wondering that, if I should look at choose them based on application. But if what you say is true, I guess I just have to choose the one Itthink I’d enjoy more. The colleges won’t really care about the acceptance rate, right? And I totally agree that SAT is so overrated. It really doesn’t test the student’s intelligence, but the ability to prepare for it (:expressionless:

Is anyone else having trouble with their email? I submitted my enrollment deposit yesterday, yet I received two separate emails addressed to the wrong person saying I hadn’t. My parents say their account has been billed for the $2500.

I really want to attend this program, and I hope some confusion won’t mess me up.

just got off the waitlist for SPI! so unbelievably excited and can’t wait for july 25th! :slight_smile:

Anyone got off the LBW wait list so far? I am on the wait list but haven’t got any updates.

Still waiting to get off the PLE waitlist.

I just got off the SPI wait list, and they gave me financial aid which I was not expecting because I wasn’t accepted for the first round. I’m super excited for July though! :slight_smile:

@cbranley did you get the same amount of aid you needed/imagined you would get if you were picked initially? Holding out on the waitlist but if I’m not gonna get aid then I wont bother counting on it

@ny2020 I actually didn’t think I would get any aid at all! Based on the comments I read here with all these amazing scores, I was feeling pretty bad about my chances…but then when I got the email I realized that it truly is about the essays/teacher recs. However, they were very generous and although I still have to pay about $1000 for the rest of the cost+airfare, I am totally willing to do it. I say don’t give up! You never know!

PLE is wrapping up today and it was by far some of the best two weeks of my life. Hope everyone going to IAS and SPI has a great time as well. Get ready for some long nights and serious work though haha

@ny2020 congratulations on getting off the wait list to the program! (this is really late haha) So I applied to YYGS this year, and I was wondering where you receive the acceptance letter from wait list. Is it in the application portal? or email? or both? Thanks!
