Thank you @JojoScarlett thank thank you so much. But too bad, I got deferred. My transcript hadn’t translated yet, my TOEFL and PSAT scores are low because I didn’t know that until this year when I came to America and people forced me to take it regardless whether I practiced or not. It’s ok, though. Besides, my family financial is only $5000 for the whole family. Btw, Do you know JSA? I got accepted to Stanford JSA for Constitutional Law and I got an internship at a start-up company as well as volunteer and internship in an attorney office. Should I do the JSA summer one because they don’t have scholarships for international students. Would it worth?
I’m not too sure about JSA, but I heard that internships are definitely worth it. (both for experience and colleges like it too) But I guess everything is up to you
Btw where did you come from?
Vietnam
@CogitoErgoSum16, wanna go bruh? U think ur all superior an stuff cuz u used big words and sounded like a pretentious high schooler thinking he’s the next best thing since sliced bread? Do you even lift bruh? Come at me dawg. West Coast Best Coast bro.
@Sauravkh You have to think about the expenses and the costs, be those financial or academical. YYGS SPI is supposed to be great according to my friend who attended it last year. She got into Yale and MIT this year. She said it was very interesting and ‘connecting’. You will meet other intelligent student and these might help somehow.
Also, YYGS will indeed look good in your college application. If you’re not attending any other program I would suggest you to go there. In the program you will be introduced with college-like classes and assignments, which unless you are in an international (IB, A-levels) or AP system, you wouldn’t be familiar with.
gl!
Peace,
CES.
I got into PLE
@CogitoErgoSum16 Thanks a lot. But
I’ve hear summer school will not look good for Apps other than Yale itselfnand it also reduces chances for scholarships later… Is it true??.
Hey guys join this fb group if you got into PLE and have fb: Yale Young Global Scholars - PLE 15’ :)>-
Is there a SPI group on Facebook yet?
@bananachips editor, president of numerous clubs, fencer, certified pianist, skiing, surfing, doing MUN, diving, numeorus awards laureate, 4 GPA, excellent essay…
@Sauravkh Well, I wouldn’t say it will ‘hurt your college application’ because it won’t; especially YYGS. I say especially YYGS because it’s a SELECTIVE summer program. In the other hand, if you go in an expensive summer program with a high acceptance rate (like Harvard’s) then It will just not look ‘great’ or help you anyhow. It will help you in your own personal academic life, and that’s pretty much it; while YYGS will indicate that you are somehow a stellar student who was accepted among many other who applied for YYGS. I would say you go :)>-
I also don’t think it will hurt your scholarship/ financial aid. YYGS looks good, but being honest, in the whole holistic application process I wouldn’t say it will play a crucial role.
Peace,
CES.
@YaleGirll Well, I’m a scholarship student in one of the listed schools, so it is possible. In the long run it would be best for you to attend one of those schools in your junior and senior year in a program like IB/ A-levels or APs. And you will also get to see your beloved country more than 5 times a year so, no problemos with that.
And a general advice, make sure to apply in other schools apart from Yale when the time comes. A good website where you can see what Yale is truly like : https://colleges.niche.com/.
Concerning ‘debating’, I was not debating as there was no real/ interesting subject to debate for.
Peace and love,
CES.
Has anyone gotten in touch with YYGS recently? I emailed them almost 3 days ago but haven’t heard a response yet.
@CogitoErgoSum16 I’m asking you since you seem to know everything
I got into this and into Stanford’s pre collegiate summer institute. Do you think yygs is more prestigious and looks better in college applications? Including the ones for other colleges?
Thanks
@ntnationa hey! I might not know as much as @CogitoErgoSum16 but my brother goes to Stanford and gave me this advice: yygs might be more prestigious but you can’t forget that a 6 week program could give you far more valuable experiences and knowledge. If you’re still fixated on the “prestige” factor, you’ve also gotta consider that you might get valuable college essay material from a 6 week program even if the program itself isn’t as prestigious. A summer program just isn’t gonna be as impressive on your app as what you learned and what you got from it.
also, can’t forget about how much it costs! I was accepted to cornell and stanford’s summer colleges, and I really, really wanted to go to cornell’s, but financial aid just wasn’t enough to make it worth like, taking out a second mortgage, you know?
hope I was a little helpful! Just remember the program is only as valuable as what you are going to get out of it learning and experience-wise, putting it on a college app is far less important!
@anchen Thanks!! I just wanted to tell you that I applied for a 3 week program, so the length isn’t the issue. I am just trying to decide which one interests me the most and, on top, is more prestigious. I wish I could do both, but, thats not an option! For me, the simple fact of going to the US and to such an amazing college is already a lot as I am international student, and for me its really far away. But, do you know it YYGS is really as prestigious as people say it is? Cos I am pretty surprised I got in!
hey all - I was accepted to the IAS session but won’t be going. (If you’re curious about my stats, check my profile - I’ve listed them on two other threads.) Instead, I’m doing a program through Tufts University called Tufts Summit, where I’ll be studying International Relations in France for a month. To any rising juniors who applied to IAS, if you’re really interested in international relations, I would highly recommend doing something like this next year!! Language and travel are huge components of an IR career, so if you’re American, staying in America for the summer really isn’t the best thing you could do towards truly understanding what International Relations means as a future.
Secondly - I want to go to Yale as much as I imagine the rest of you do, but keep in mind that the YYGS program does NOT help you get into Yale any more than any other respected summer program does. Alums of the program who have or haven’t gotten into Yale College both agree that their decisions were not influenced by their participation in YYGS. So if you got rejected this year, don’t worry about it. Get a job, look for an internship, apply to another program - DO SOMETHING YOU LOVE! I wish you all the best in your summer plans, and hope that all of us rising seniors can keep things in perspective when we apply to college in the fall. Good luck
