Alright, i got accepted today!!!
I was deffered back in December, so I wasn’t sure about the outcome.

my stats were pretty low:
ACT:29
GPA: 3.67 weighted
AP lang, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics
Seven Honor classes throughout Highschool
Extra Circular: Marching Band 4years and track freshman and sophmore year
My essay’s and letters were amazing

UGA has generally had three decision release dates over the last 5-6 years. The first is mid-December with Early Action decisions. In late Feb., they admit (only admits in Feb) any Reg. Dec. or Early Action deferred for applicants who meet the Early Action criteria (deferred probably have new scores or better grades that boosted them up). Then the final decisions come out in late March. Hope this helps!

I got a letter. My stats are pretty avg, and I have no hook. Only my gpa/rank is really high. But I heard the same thing…admitted because met EA criteria…

Generally, I think that the idea of hooks is somewhat an overblown issue, especially at a place like UGA that goes out and states that gender, ethnicity, location (either by in-state vs out-of-state or location within GA) and legacy are not a factor in admissions. I am guessing that since grades and curriculum are the most important factor, and you were 2 out of 500 (congrats!), that was the key for the decision. From what I know, the idea of hooks is generally used by denied students as to why they were not admitted, and they do not want to admit that they were not as strong as others. The idea of what a person’s actual academic GPA is (not what is on the transcript) , as well as a lack of knowledge about ACT-SAT comparisons are two other often misunderstood issues.

Yeah…I think they automatically accept ranks 1 and 2 in state anyway. But only my URM friends seemed to have heard back, and I know they have an emphasis on trying to increase diversity. But I have heard otherwise to, so…good luck!
