Yellow dots on Common App questions = optional?

Hi everyone. I’m working on my Common App supplements. Next to some of the questions, there are yellow dots. I’m confused about what these mean.

Here’s what the Common App instructions say: “Note that all initially required questions are indicated by a yellow dot. Based on your answers to certain questions, you may be prompted to answer additional required questions.”

Does this mean that questions without yellow dots are totally optional? The reason I ask is because on the Davidson supplement, there is a question without a yellow dot that asks you to list all of your classes from 9th-11th grade. How could they let this be optional, because wouldn’t very few people complete it?

Thank you!

If it does not have a yellow dot, then I believe it is completely optional, but if you want to make sure, you can fill out all the spaces with yellow dots and save the information. If they are optional, then it will say that your answers were saved successfully at the top.

Because it will be on your transcript anyway

Thanks jgraider! I actually already submitted the supplement, which is why I was a bit worried. Haha. But I think I was able to save it successfully with the space blank, so it was probably fine.

Yeah…that makes sense. Thank you!
