"Yes, I'm Going!"

Well, at this point I have signed that I will be attending/transferring to a particular in-state public university for engineering this fall. I know I can’t afford it in the slightest, but I am holding out hope that I will get some decent financial aid. Maybe. I probably won’t. At what point should I start telling friends and family I have decided? I don’t want to look like a total idiot where I tell everyone I know and their dogs, “Hey guess what?! I’m going to XXXXXX university!!!” And then when fall rolls around, I’m actually going to a completely different university or not going to a university at all.

If it were me, I wouldn’t tell anybody if it wasn’t a sure thing. Because then I would feel embarrassed if it didn’t end up happening and everyone knew about it.

I was going to attend one university “for sure”, made the deposits and everything. Made a last minute decision that I was not willing to get into such extraordinary debt and switched to another univ.

It’s awkward at first having to be like um actually im going to U of X after all. But it’s about as big a burden as a bug bite. The more you scratch, the more it’ll itch, so if you do decide to switch (after having considered all circumstances) don’t overthink it! It’s your life so what others think only affects you as much as you let it.

I would say wait till you know for sure. It’s not like waiting a bit longer will hurt. It’ll be less awkward for you to not have to tell them the reason if you don’t end up going.
I’m saying this cause I had a similar problem. I was going to attend a university but ended up going to community college instead. Now I am transferring out (yay) but I am still going to wait till I tell anyone in case something bad happens (hope not). Only my brother knows hehe. But congrats!

I made the ole’ switcheroo from a university that I told many of my friends I was attending to another local college - at first I was embarrassed that I’d be caught because I talked about the first school for months, only to change my mind (for albeit legitimate reasons) at the very last moment but I’ve stopped caring - I really love the school I’m going to this fall, I love my schedule, (I love the fact I’m on a full ride and don’t have to pay a dime…) - I don’t need to justify my decisions to anyone - you don’t need to explain yourself. Tell people what you think is gonna work out, and if it doesn’t end up working out, oh well - just do whatever is best for you and you only.
