What is your home state? If not TX then UT is not going to happen. BU and U Miami would be the same. Look at the common data sets at the school to see how you measure up. Remember that most of the bottom scores would be hooked via sports or something similar so you should be about the 75%.

Honestly, UMiami, UTexas and BU are high reaches. My son got into UMiami with considerably higher stats and he was lucky he got in at all. Most kids had higher stats than he did. The others are possibilities and worth applying to. Good luck

In-state only matters for UT among those three schools. I should have put a carriage return between the two statements. As far as why those schools would be reaches:

From the Common Data Sets
U Miami: (~40% acceptance rate)
SAT 25% - 580 CR, 610 M, 580 W
GPA - 76% have a GPA 3.75 or greater

BU: (~50% acceptance rate)
SAT 25% - 580 CR, 600 M, 590 W
GPA - 56% have a 3.5 GPA or greater

Your standardized scores are considerably lower than the average accepted student (I put the SATs at the 25% level). Most of the accepted students in that end of the curve are hooked (probably athletes). Your grades are also on the low end. Unless you are a recruited athlete those are big time reaches.

Zach, you really ought to buy a college guide or two. Also learn how to research schools’ stats on the internet. It’s easy: go to the school web site and do a site search on “Common Data Set” or perhaps “200 Common Data Set.” Scan through the CDS and you’ll get all of the info you need on class rank and scores, amongst other things.
