chances at the usual: HYPS etc…

HYPS: Reach

Average chance, about 10%.

what can I do to improve my chances?

Your mean a venture crew?

HYPS is a big reach reach. Your just another white male with average test scores (by college confidential standards) and nothing else all that special. Maybe if you can get a hook this summer you will have a decent shot but I would suggest you apply to other, very good schools.

What exactly is a hook?

hook = something unique enough to set you apart from all the other white males with sky high test scores and, a 3.98 GPA and several leadership positions in genaric ECs.

improv comedy and ultimate frisbee are generic?

On a seperate note, any suggestions for summer “hooks”

if you really want one of the HYPS bunch you should work on trying to get your SATs up a little bit… I mean dont get me wrong: a 2140 is a great score… and you have a perfect GPA… so you could possibly get in with the current score… but for a white male a 2140 is actually a little below average for HYP standards (which is slightly laughable)… without hooks it would really help you to break 2200 or so at least… its kinda a crapshoot at the top so good luck.

"improv comedy and ultimate frisbee are generic? "

haha yeah… half of my friends do both… though it is cool that your Ultimate team is so high up. You should look at Carleton College… they would appreciate your frisbee elective.
