Yet another Kindle question!

^ Agree about the battery life. I spend a lot of time in my car driving and waiting for kids so I like the ability to be able to charge in the car. And it was so cheap I couldn’t pass the deal up.

For anyone that is wondering, I just ordered a 3G from Amazon. It is supposed to be in stock. I wouldn’t wait past the weekend however.

I wasn’t sure about accessories so I’d been waiting. I will decide on accessories later. I doubt they will sell out, or if they do it won’t be a disappointment not to have a case.

Just got this on facebook
[Amazon Media Room: News Release](http://phx.corporate-ir.net/phoenix.zhtml?c=176060&p=irol-newsArticle&ID=1498845&highlight=)

^Yea! I always give my Dad books but now that he has a Kindle, I figured that was no longer an option and there aren’t a lot of options with him when it comes to gift-giving. This made my day.

I order the Kindles for my kids on Monday for fear they would be out of stock in another few weeks. Since they are Hanukkah presents and Hanukkah starts next week, I wasn’t going to wait.

I don’t know which cover the kids will like, so I bought a couple of different ones at Target and Best Buys so they could play with them and decide what they like best. I will then return what they don’t want, and/or they can order from Amazon what they like.

I made the mistake of mentioning the Kindle to son. He says doesn’t want one, he used i-pad for that. Now I’m back to sending money. I already send him care packages with clothes and food, so those aren’t treats.

Thanks for the heads up about a possible Kindle shortage for the holidays. I planned to get one for my father, but figured I still had plenty of time. After reading this thread, I immediately ordered one. (PS I already have a Kindle, which I love, love, love!)

So today I get an email from my oldest with a list of books he would like for Hanukkah and a reminder that he can only read one book at a time and that I should not spend more than Amazon’s price on each book! He then tells me he is not interested in a Kindle at this time as he has not done the research (while I have spent hours on research!) My son’s fear is that because he only reads at the gym and at bedtime due to his hours in medical school, the cost of a Kindle might not be worth it to him. My though is this is a gift, so hopefully he will enjoy it.

On the other hand, my daughter and I are watching tv and she said she needs to get a cover for her Kindle; I ask what Kindle is that? She then gets all worried as she said she thought I was getting her one for Hanukkah. I told her it was something I had thought about but she didn’t sound that excited about having one as she likes to hold a real book. Now she is freaking out as she hasn’t thought about what she wanted for Hanukkah and I am enjoying this just a bit:-)

Hiding in my closet are 2 Kindles and covers which both kids will get most likely on Friday, as my son heads back on Sunday and my daughter on Monday. I want them to have time to decide if they are keeping them before heading back home. If my son really decides he doesn’t want his, I might have to become the owner!!!

Aw, snowball, THAT would be a shame, wouldn’t it? :)

Actually, my husband wanted to order 3 Kindles, one being for me. I convinced him to wait as I wanted to see how the kids liked them. Being able to share accounts was one of the reasons we decided on a Kindle vs other e reader; the kids read many of the same books, and my daughter and I read a good many books alike.

I’m a happy kindle owner of two years and absolutely love it.

I am a fan of the mini lights you can also buy on Amazon, if you need more little gadget ideas. If your kids have room mates or want to read on planes, in tents, hotel rooms or other places where everyone in the room doesn’t want the light on, they are wonderful. Just a little glow lighting up the page. Very cozy actually.

snowball, reading at the gym is great with a kindle, by the way. No pages to turn: just a quick click, and no extra gadgets needed to hold it open and on the stand.

I was ready to “hate” the kindle, actually, as I’m a “real” book lover, but I’m a convert. I’ve downloaded my bookgroup’s entire reading list for the year and they go everywhere with me. The only thing I don’t like is I can’t give or lend my favorites to people I know would love them. I do feel virtuous about not cutting down trees to feed my addiction, however.

The only other thing besides lending that I don’t like is that I can’t give them away to our library sale. I would love a way to donate the ebooks I have already read and don’t care about reading again.

snowball - don’t fret, the last thing I wanted last xmas was a Kindle. It sat for two days before I even opened the box. When I finally started to use it and downloaded books, I was hooked. I can see your S late at night after a long day or heading off to the gym wishing he had something to read and voila! he can download in 60 secs just about any book he wants. Tell them both to just try a couple of books on it and see what they think.

It’s true what mamom says. I’m an avid library user, and was so reluctant to buy into the Kindle proprietary model. But it’s been great! I get lots of the cheap or free downloads from Amazon, and it really is terrific to be able to instantly download a bestseller when I realize that the book I took on a trip just isn’t cutting it. And the cost is quite reasonable.

Another great thing is that if you have access to a scanner that will create pdf’s, you can email that to your kindle account at no cost. My husband copies a few pages here and there from the esoteric history books with which he likes to travel. He can open them on the kindle and not have to lug the books around. Very cool!

FYI - Just read that Amazon will be selling the Kindle 2’s (previous generation) with WiFi for $89 on Black Friday. I have a Kindle 2 and love it. If Amazon really does this I will probably pick one up for my 17yo son who reads constantly.

Regarding the BF Kindle 2 sale - they might be refurbished, not sure.

I am not that worried about my son not liking the Kindle; I am sure once he tries it out he will be happy. It is just he is my child to not want to waste money, and if he feels he will not use it right away, he might want to wait.

Now offer him a big screen tv, that is another story!!

I wrote

Duh, I meant to say it has 3G NOT wifi. 3G is better in my opinion, you almost always have a signal and can download a new book almost anywhere.

I believe the 3G Kindle is the $189 Kindle. Is this the one that will be $89? This is what I’m asking my H to get me for Christmas, so I need to give him a heads up.

It is the older version of the kindle that only has 3G. It is being posted everywhere so I guess it is going to happen. They are supposedly putting it online at 9am PST. But, I suggest you check to verify yourself.
