Yet another song question!

Would singing a song which usually has an accent without it be advisable? For example, I love the song “Hold On” from The Secret Garden, but I know that the character of Martha has an accent. Can I get away with it?

I’d also just like to apologize for the amount of questions that have come up for me. Lol, it just seems like every time I get one answered, another comes up. But I really do appreciate all the help and advice!

As a rule, you should not sing with a dialect for an audition (unless the dialect is required in a specific show for which you’re auditioning) - especially when the lyrics aren’t written specifically in dialect - and since “Hold On” isn’t (in the way that “Wouldn’t It Be Loverly” is, for example), you are in good shape! :)

I was sorta wondering the same thing. I’m doing “How Glory Goes” from Floyd Collins for my ballad and he’s supposed to sing it in a heavy country accent, but I haven’t been doing that

You do not need to sing How Glory Goes in an accent. You have made the best choice! :)
