My school is kinda ghetto, with a lot of rich kids, but NO ONE cares about anything…really its some other kids and me that are smart. Yea there are the honors classses/AP but everyone wants to go to a SUNY campus and not go for anything more presitigious!

(Half of our graduating class goes to the local community college, most of the remaining kids go to SUNY, and whatevers left goes to Pace, we had 1 kid fromt he last 3 years that went to Cornell)

So I was wondering what I should do as a junior?

I really really really want to go to UCLA, its like my dream

My Weigted GPA is a 3.8

I Volenteer at the hospital 150+ hours and counting

I do music mixing

I do hip/hop production

Ive played my ethnic (Indian) instrument: the tabla

I just took the PSATs but hopefully will be commended

I am going for a 2100+ on the SATs

I do track

I work (with an income) teaching kids math and english (I was thinking this may be an advantage since Im helping kids at a disadvantage do better, not bagging groceries)

I have my own recording studio which I built

I can get some really good reccomedations I think

I am taking College Spanish, AP Physics, and Honors Pre Calc (these are my 3 classes where I am getting a college credit from), Im also taking Honors everything else, except for english cause I really dont like English so I went for college spanish over it)

my senior year I plan on taking AP everything for 4 periods then getting out early

I was wondering where I stand? Do you guys think I have a chance at a decent college? im really worried cause most of the people i hang out with are pretty laid back about college and “take it as it comes”

hehe O7 here as well. You have good stats, but FFF is right, they might be average compared to a lot of CCers. But still, you have a good chance at any good college, at least that’s what I think. Any specific colleges in mind? Just keep the good work up, and try not to get senioritis lol.

Do well on your SAT IIs - they’re very important to UCs.

Try to solidify your relationships with the people you are going to ask for recs from now until senior year so they know you’re not just “a nice, young person.”

most people dont know kumon, that and silvan

i dont really like both but what ever, I also dont think UT is reach since I know people that have been to UT and I think that I can handle it, unless their admissions have gone more hardcore within the last 3 or so years

thanks for the posts people

Im going for 750 in Math
650 + in English

and for the essay above a 10, but I read that colleges dont really fully utilize the essays till 008.

Don’t ask for your chances, and then criticize what others have to say. It is a reach…if you’re out of state, which is what I assumed, since more of your schools are in Cali. Also, none of your information is permanent. You can guess your PSAT, and your SAT, but it won’t do you any good. Back on topic, UT out of state is a reach for like everyone out of state. The school is like comprised of less than 4 percent (I think around 3 percent) for out of staters. What is your rank also? You need to be around top 3-5 percent for out of state.

I think you have a good shot at UCLA…you’ll stand out among your apathetic classmates. Work hard this year and get good grades to boost your GPA and rocket you up through the class rankings. Study darn hard for your SATs and kick some extracurricular butt. The hard work will pay off and opportunities will blossom before your eyes. Good luck.

my apologies but I said UT was “easy” (not the quotes) cause I have lived in Texas for a loooong time before moving to New York and I went to UT everyweekend so its like a second home, i dont know,
but thanks maverach for the good advice, definetly will study my ass off.
