Yoga In Front of TV

Okay… I know this is not the mindful/in touch with your body way to do yoga (so please don’t lecture me on how it is not the “right” way to do or think about yoga). But I want to work a couple of yoga sessions into my weekly workout routine to improve my flexibility. And my “workout reward” system is generally that I can’t watch TV if I am not working out while doing it. Hence the rowing machine & exercise bike are well used at my house. I know from a lot of years of experience that an episode of NCIS or Game of Thrones is a good draw to get me to the exercise equipment.

But… lots of yoga poses make it hard to see the TV. I tried internet searching, and really only found one site that answered my question of finding poses that allow TV viewing. Almost all were kneeling/sitting poses. But I am sure there are some laying on my side or others that might be good as well. So I figured there are surely parents out here with lots of yoga experience who could suggest some poses that I could then Google and try out. :)

Yup, I know this isn’t generally “how it is done”. But it is how I want to do it… so any pose suggestions would be appreciated!

cobra, upward facing dog, warrior, half moon, chair pose, tree pose?

I teach Pilates -so if you would like a few of those I can send you a few links (core strength and flexibility)
I can’t help with the yoga

Sure, PM me links if you can. :)

A yoga DVD?

Well, the point is that I don’t want to watch the yoga DVD. I want to watch a TV show while doing yoga. Like I said, not how it is traditionally done. I am just now trying out the suggestions above while watching the Michigan-Indiana basketball game.

Pigeon Pose is good.

And standing poses.

Right now, I’m taking a yoga for beginners class where we hold poses for quite a long time. Seems like that approach would be ideal for trying to watch TV, once you find a few good poses. Remember to breathe, slow breaths, 4 to 6 seconds in, 4 to 6 seconds out, if you can, while holding the poses. Helps you go deeper into them.
