Yolanda King Dies

Heard on the news this morning that Yolanda King, the oldest daughter of MLK, passed away last night or this morning. I think they said it was from complications of a heart condition, but I am not sure on that one. With the passing of Jerry Falwell yesterday, the conversation in line at the pearly gates should be interesting…

Here is an article about her death. She was only 51…

They just interviewed Andrew Young on the news. He said, as he was giving a tribute, “I always thought she was happy, but you never know what is going on inside”. That would be awful if this was self-inflicted. I have no idea if he had any foundation for this statement, but he is very close to the King family. He was one of the first they interviewed here in Atlanta when Coretta Scott King died, and he had a fair amount of information (at that time) that hadn’t yet been released to the media.

I’m really sorry to hear of the death of Ms. King. She was a living legacy of a remarkable man and obviously a committed person in her own right. Her family deserves the right to deal with her death w/o the shadow of speculation as to cause, at least before they themselves are willing to release the information. I hope that everyone respects their sensibilities, though obviously, I’m not holding my breath–the media tend to believe that everything is fair game.

Yes, Berurah. I was surprised at Andrew Young’s statement. Here in Atlanta, this will be ongoing big news. I will be interested to see how it is handled and what is said.

Update:
Now the news is reporting that Andrew Young has said the following:

This makes better sense

A great loss:

Was very shocked upon hearing the news.
