You can’t sleep because husband is snoring, and when you get to living room to sleep on sofa, and you see dog sleeping on big sofa, you take the smaller loveseat.

You find yourself in bed with H and TWO 75 pound dogs, with no room for your feet, and you just curl into a smaller ball…

You actually thank them for waking you up in the middle of the night, knowing they could of chosen to pee on the floor instead.

I guess we don’t love our dogs…we don’t let them on the sofa or the bed. Our lab sheds so much the thought of all that dog hair on the bed is pretty gross.

Actually, the lab is getting old and we are all trying to avoid the thought of what all her recent ailments means…we do love the old gal.

You don’t want to go on vacation and leave them behind

One gets the stomach bug, vomits and poops ALL over the carpet, you get up in middle of night, steam clean the carpet for hours, and it happens again…

you take them on vacation with you.

<3 my pets!

This is a real problem for me. I love to travel, but every time I go somewhere, I spend so much time worrying about my pets and missing them, texting the catsitter to see if they are okay, etc. I have one cat who is very social and cuddly, follows me around all day and snuggles under the covers with me at night, and I always feel so guilty about leaving her alone, with just a short visit from the catsitter once a day. It’s worse because the other cats bully her. :(

…you’ve spent ~$10,000 in the past three months on veterinary bills.

You cry when you leave them to go on vacation.

^^^Simpkin, I have one like that. She stays upstairs by herself because the others bully her. She sleeps with me every night, cuddled in the crook of my arm. Such a sweet little girl.

When the family travels, which is rare, all the doors are open, and she basically sits in on a windowsill the whole time. When I go to visit my Mom for the weekend, I can’t sleep, because my little girl is not cuddling with me.

You cook an extra chicken breast with dinner since you have three dogs over 85 pounds each and want to make sure they each get enough of a reward for being so good while you are all at the table.

Also, when you find all three dogs in bed with H when you come home late from work, you just let them all sleep and go sleep on the couch because they all seem so “peaceful.”

And, I didn’t even think I was a dog person when we got our first puppy.

Ouch!!!

Our dog is mean, nasty and sarcastic. He only loves our daughter and turns his snout up at the rest of us because we aren’t her.

The fact that I bake butter cookies specifically for him does not in any way mean that I love him. Ok?

Our sweet collie is almost 11 years old and getting pretty gray. I tear up whenever I think about him not lasting that much longer! We got him when our youngest was only 3, and she turns 14 in a couple of weeks. He is SO good with the kids. His understanding of a lot of words amazes me, too.

When you specifically plan vacations around the fact that the dog is going with you- no negotiations.

When you drive home an hour and a half each way, on your ONLY day off during the week and you’re swamped with homework, just to play fetch with your dog.

When you don’t mind her waking you up in the middle of the night so that you can lift the blankets and she can lay next to you.

You know everyone else loves your pet when they text your parents (while you’re away at college) and ask if they can come over and play with the dog.

My outside cat (by his preference and that of my two inside cats) has an attitude and only truly loves my husband. We makes sure he’s in the garage each evening: big garage with windows. The cat has a love seat to sleep on, with the requisite fuzzy blankets in winter. I go out on colder nights (mid 40s and below) and cover the cat with a blanket. He usually deigns to open a eye, stretch out a paw before he settles even more comfortably in his nest. I found myself on a particularly cold night this year, going out at 2 a.m. to make sure the covers stayed on. I truly hate that cat
he disses me any chance he gets.

We totally do this…we look for dog friendly hotels, dog-friendly beaches, etc.

You know I love my cat when I insisted on being the one to give him his insulin shots when he was diagnosed with diabetes last month. Our vet gave a demonstration to DH and me, then I surprised myself (and the vet) by giving the injection perfectly. I still apologize and hug him each time.

Between the cat and the dog, I’ve spent at least $3000 since Nov. That is a lot of love!

For all fellow dog-lovers…this doggie plays the piano and sings!
