You Know You’re Getting Old When…

After taking our daily walk, we cleaned up and put on nice clothes. We drove 20 minutes to the funeral home, paid our respects to our next door neighbor’s family (his mom passed away), drove home and changed our clothes. It occurred to me that this is what old folks do.

Meaning knowing people who die and going to their funerals?

As my parents and In-laws aged, funerals became their only social event.

Yes … but also understanding the importance of formally paying our respects … going out of our way to go to the funeral home when the only one we know in the family lives right next door.

I ran to the grocery store today; they were playing Motley Crue as the elevator music.

This reminds me of this 80 some yo lady that was trying to park at my hairdressers. I was there early so just waiting in my car. She tried parking, opened her door realized she was half over into the other spot. Backed up, tried again. This happened approximately 10 times. Finally she really backed up and I was sure she was going to back into my vehicle, so I got out. Luckily she stopped in time. Finally on about the 20th time she got in the parking spot. I told my hairdresser, that lady should really not be driving! :face_with_monocle:

I recently met some friends for lunch at a restaurant I’d never been to. There is a large lot next to the restaurant where you had to use some sort of parking app instead of meters. The lot did have a small section of 4 spaces that were designated for senior citizens only. The spaces had good old parking meters and only took coins. I proudly pulled into one of the old lady spaces and deposited my quarters. My other friends were fumbling and cursing at the parking app. Sometimes it pays to be old(er).

I despise the parking apps with QR codes here in Nashville. My hair salon has a lot that requires that and it drives me crazy. I recently had a friend in from my hometown who wanted to meet for dinner before she flew out next morning. I picked the restaurant based on comfortable padded seating and widely available parking. Menu was secondary!

I love the parking apps! I rarely carry cash, never coins but always have my phone.

I love parking apps!

I’m fine with parking apps - probably more than meters where I have to enter a credit card, buy time, etc. I just wish cities would be consistent! Use one or another!

I dislike parking apps – You can’t pull into someone else’s spot who left early with left-over time on the meter! It was great when you only had a brief errand.

Plus, it is yet another way to track your car via license plate.

You know you are getting old when you have the time, strong opinion and life experience to compare parking apps to old school meters😀

You mention a movie that came out in 1979 and the comments include: I was 9, and I wasn’t born yet.

Ooops didn’t mean to reply

you know the current slang and memes because of your children, who are older than your co workers. . And you need to explain this to your z colleagues who are surprised when you know them

When your child tells you that they don’t understand what the “young kids” are saying.

I’m confident that my kids know I don’t know that therefore I can use okay or thumb up. Sheesh. I mean, why would I be passive-aggressive with my kids?

I use OK all the time. I also put two spaces after periods, even when I’m tapping texts with my finger.
