You See Berkeley

…Is it as outrageously tough to get into as an Intl. student as people say it is?

My Stats:
2050 SAT I
2250+ SAT II (Physics, Chemistry, Math II)
Straight As. Top 5 in batch of 200.
Fantastic ECs.
Amazing Reccos.
Toughest possible course load in school.
Good essays(I think. I don’t like anything I write, but my counselor & teachers like 'em).

Yes, but you have good enough stats to have a reasonable chance.

It also depends on your major.

Good luck!

Are they very strict about changing majors et al?

If it’s within the College of Letters and Science (CLS), changing majors is easy…trying to switch from CLS to College of Engineering or College of Chemistry is more difficult.

Difficulty for changing depends on one’s GPA?

^ Most definitely. Then again, what majors do you have in mind?

Mathematics
Computer Science
Computer Engineering
Economics
(in random order)

i’ve always wanted to see Berkeley.

Well, switching from Math to Econ, or vice versa shouldn’t be too much of a problem, since they are within the College of Letters and Science.

Switching from Computer Science to Computer engineering would be relatively easy as well, since both majors reside within the College of Engineering.

The trouble is when you want to change majors from Math/Econ to Computer Science/Engineering. It’s difficult to transfer into the College of Engineering.

So can I make it easier for myself by applying for the major which makes it easier to get in? (Also, which one would that be?)

Next time you’re in San Francisco, take a Richmond-bound BART train to the East Bay and get off at the Downtown Berkeley station. Then start walking west, up the hill towards campus… Or, if you’re cheap, you can check out the video tours on the Berkeley website. ;)

All the majors you’ve chosen are “impacted”. Computer Science/Engineering is more so. But, if you really want to do CS, apply for it…you have a decent chance.

Well, computer science in L&S is easy to transfer into, as it is no longer impacted.

If your resume is as good as you say it is, you’d have a good shot. You’d need to get your SAT higher than a 2050, though. The acceptance rate for internationals is something like 10%, I believe.
