Young oboist lands job

<p>(I searched for the old thread about music majors getting jobs, and couldn’t find it.)</p>

<p>I am always encouraged when I hear of orchestras taking chances with young players. Although, without meaning any disrespect to anyone involved, I suspect sometimes a young player - assuming they’re good, of course, - gets the nod because it makes such great publicity.</p>

Late last week, just after Elizabeth Koch signed a contract as the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra’s new principal oboist, she was asked her feelings about taking on such a glamorous and high-stress new gig.</p>

<p>“It’s awesome! I can finally get my own car.”</p>

<p>Koch is 21.
