Your best beauty tip ,home made or low cost ?

We have discussed this a couple of times on the dressing young thread and I am in the seasonal camp. Summertime is one thing with tanned (faux or otherwise), toned legs and fresh pedicures, but winter goosebumps + pale legs = unattractive.

I thing the trend may change. Kate Middleton has been wearing hose with pumps and I think she looks fabulous.

I’m hopelessly behind the trends! I hate the way my bare feet feel in most dress shoes and usually wear knee-highs, socks or ‘footies’ even when wearing pants. Something about the skin of my feet, probably with a bit of perspiration, sticking to the insoles of the shoes—ick!

Intrigued by the wolford tights.

Around mid-forties my bare legs just stopped being a spectacle I’m willing to subject upon the world. Unless I’m exercising and in shorts. Somehow in sneakers it’s okay.

This thread has made me aware of all of the bottles or tubes of unused products that I have lying around my house. Do I really need three different moisturizers? I don’t think so. This week I’m throwing most of this stuff out. Some of it is so old anyway.

I use Weleda skin food on my body and sometimes at night on my face. I try a lot of other things but I always come back to it. It absorbs really well & lasts, plus it smells great & I can get it at the grocery store.

another thing I get from the grocery is JR Liggetts shampoo bar.

It isn’t fancy but I don’t need conditioner after to detangle my hair.

Not homemade, but after deciding my aging skin needed “more” than drugstore foundation I spent a year (and a lot of money) trying fancy makeup. The only one I didn’t hate was Smashbox, but $40 for a small container - yikes! I googled and googled for alternatives and found someone recommending Almay AntiAging foundation which is under $10. I love it! It covers just as well and blends (it does go on white -which is weird - but as you rub it blends amazingly well).

Okay…after all of the reports on the news today…is anyone stopping their vitamin supplements? I take several and really think they make a difference in my skin/hair and overall energy…but now I am questioning if it is wise to continue?
I will keep sprinkling 2 tablespoons of flax seeds on my salad each day…I am sure these are good for just about everyone!

Has anyone tried the two week manicure?? I spend way too much trying to keep my nails looking nice and polished…does it really last two weeks…looking perfect??

katie93mom, Yes, I am wondering about the multi vitamin as I do eat a healthy diet, heavy on all the whole grains and veggies. (I am not sure how healthy the flax seeds truly are if you don’t grind them.)

Those taking multivitamins or supplements of iron, Vitamin B-6, folic acid, magnesium, zinc and copper had, on average, a 2.4 percent increased chance of death over the course of the research.

Well I don’t take iron ( but I cook in cast iron), I don’t take zinc except when I have a cold & magnesium is part of my calcium supplement. ( calcium also lowers risk)
I don’t take mega doses of the B vitamins- would be curious as to if the dose matters ( I would think the formula would make a difference)

Well, I’m feeling better about the fact that I never remember to take an kind of supplement.

I picked up my Lachydrin 5. I’ll let you know when the transformation begins!

I’ve heard Iron is likely to cause more heart attack or stroke.

EPTR - We might not recognize you a week from now when you post!!!

Yes, flax seed must be ground up in order to get the full benefit of taking it.
An easy way to do this is to put some in a blender. It will take some time, so don’t expect it to be a super quick project. Keep the extra in the fridge to protect the oil from going rancid.

Whole flax seeds can pass through the GI system undigested, so yes, the ground kind is much more beneficial :). TJ and many other stores sell ground flax seed, if you don’t want to grind your own.

I like the whole ones (flax seeds) and then grind or mash each day before eating…they seem fresher this way… I only grind or mash enough to break open each seed…What is the consistency if you put them in the blender? It would seem like they would turn into a paste…?

Well, I know!!! I’m guessing that my new found, glowing, youthful looking skin will be so evident that it will permeate my written words and be detectable by other posters here!

NO NO NO : Preparation H under eyes . Rogaine ON EYELASHES !! Only on EYEBROWS . For puffy eyes , teabags ( used ) are good , or try my little metal juice cans kept in refrigerator .

Fruit of the Earth (FOTE) aloe vera as hair gel. No scent, no alcohol, and it has fewer additives than other aloe vera gels. Plus, it is nice to have around for sunburns.
