Your best beauty tip ,home made or low cost ?

Every AM I take 2 small cans of juice I keep in the fridge and hold over puffy eyes to reduce my bags . I then use a good eye moisturizer . My other tip is smearing a bit of Rogane on my sparse eyebrows at night . My sparse eyebrows have filled out quite a bit ! It made me think YOU other moms out there must have some favorite tips as well !

-Drink plenty of water. I’m not advocating 8 glasses a day but drink enough for you. I notice a big difference in the clarity and overall healthy glow of my skin when I drink enough to not feel thirsty.

-Bring your own nail polish when getting a pedicure. That way you are able to just do touch ups and make your pedicure last much longer.

Great cafe discussion!!

Hi fauxmaven-
I may be totally off base, however, I am under the impression that Rogaine cautions use near eyes. I do not know this to be fact or simply a cya on the part of Rogaine.

To share:
Baking soda for brushing ones teeth. Much cheaper than toothpaste and no fluoride. (which some believe is not healthy for your body to consume)

Having eyebrows and eyelashes dyed professionally. I seldom bother with eye makeup when I have my eye brows and lashes dyed. I just started Lattisse. The price has come down quite a bit.

Zinc oxide diaper rash cream. It will heal any kind of skin irritation, including minor sunburn, overnight.

Here’s a tip shared with me with a beautiful coworker many years ago. She was old enough to be my mom and had exquisite skin. Her tip – honey. Bring a cheap squeeze bottle into the shower and use all over your hands, throat and face. Try to leave it on as long as possible before rinsing. Do this once a week. I manage a couple of times per year.

It leaves your skin unbelievably creamy and soft. Honey is a natural antiseptic, as well. I know it sounds weird but it works. Best facial I ever had.

Neosporin on acne. The pimples will shrink away faster than with most other treatments.

I’ve worn sunscreen every day for over 25 years. Don’t have a single wrinkle! I wear any sunscreen I have around the house.

Interesting about the honey. My mother’s wound care nurse has been using a product called “medihoney” on her leg with good results. She was (perhaps unfortunately, I have no idea) overruled by the doc, who preferred a more traditional treatment.

Rosebud salve. Costs about $6 and they have it at Sephora and many other outlets. Great for lips, cuticles, chapped skin- anything, really. I always have some with me. It comes in different flavors now, too. I use the little tin tubs, but it also comes in tubes.

Neosporin around the edges of chapped lips at night. It will be gone in the morning.

I second the HONEY recommendation.
I use the Manuka from New Zealand for dermal infections, 1st degree burns, rashes, pimples, sunburn, etc.
Really works!
Slather a daub or two all over your face for as long as possible for moisture, soothing, anti-bacterial, healing effects- yummy!!!

This might sound a bit bizarre but I grew up with parents that insisted that we not put soap on our face…it was full of something and bad for our skin (but we did use it everywhere else!). To this day I’ve never washed my face with soap. Maybe a coincidence but I have really great skin and no one can believe I’m my age. Who knows.

I also read a book a long time ago that examined the effectiveness of facial moisturizers, among other beauty products (forget the author). The winner was actually lubriderm. This industry is similar to my own (education), where it’s well known that price serves as a quality signal- so paradoxically the higher the price the higher the demand.

An esthetician told me to wash my face with lemon or lime juice plus water everyday, it cuts down on the oil. Then I use leftover yogurt and home grown lavender on my face afterward. It beats having a costly facial which I can’t stand because it takes too long.

My grand mom use egg yoke instead of conditioner, she didn’t have a single gray hair until her 70’s. I tried, you need to rise complete, otherwise, it’s smelly.

^^^
Tried that once in high school and used water that was too hot. I wore scrambled eggs all day. Not pretty at all!

For rough feet, available at some specialty stores (got one once at a General Store on Cape Cod and the most recent one I bought at Ten Thousand Villages), a terra cotta clay foot scrubber. The surface is roughened with a handle to hold onto. They work well and never run out like a pumice stone. Just don’t drop it.

Anyone use false eyelashes? I’m curious about them since I have not been blessed in that area but wonder if they look obvious. I can’t afford extensions until they become permanent and not semi-permanent.

Another tip is to get a good eyebrow pencil and use it correctly. The one I have is from Sephora and it has a self sharpening tip on one end and a brush on the other. Sketch in the needed amount of pigment and then brush it in to look natural. There is nothing that gives me the creeps more than that drawn line eyebrow. Especially when it done in the wrong color.

Baking soda, another use: put a cup or so in your bath water, and it is a natural water softener, makes your skins feels silky.

Facial toner: witch hazel in a spray bottle.
