How tight a leash are they on? Do they drink, smoke, and have sex? Do you even know? What would you do if you found out that they did? What is the worst thing a teenager can do, in your opinion?

Why are you asking? What is the point? Why would parents want to put out this kind of information about their kids just because you are asking?

My kid is just horrible–he spends too much time on the computer, procrastinates on his schoolwork, and sometimes I have to tell him 2 or 3 times to mow the lawn, wash the dishes, clean his room, etc. before he does it!!! That’s pretty bad, but the worst would be if he stopped going to church with the family–which he hasn’t done yet.

How could anyone possibly answer this question? You don’t know what you don’t know.

Atomom, your kid is a perfectly normal teenager.

As long as they’re not doing drugs, sex, or alcohol, I count my blessings at having to tell them to do their chores 2 or 3 times!

I have also learned you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. Try catching him doing something good and compliment him on it. Positive reinforcement works!

My kids drink and have sex. Hope that helps, Martha!

Atomom, if you were just pulling Martha’s chain, I apologize for my too-earnest reply. Hard to detect sarcasm sometimes around here.

MomofWildChild–Hahahahah!

My kids drink and have sex. Hope that helps, Martha!

bwa hahah

my older daughter, probably drinks occasionally, she also requested a double size bed for graduation rather than a single ( which could use her old sheets), so I will assume that occasionally she also has sex.
Of course she will soon be 24, and when I was her age, I not only had, had sex, but I was pregnant!
* I was also married*

To answer your question
The worst thing a teen could do, is lie

The worst thing my teen could do is to continually make decisions that indicate low self-esteem. To not learn and change from the mistakes they make.

yes, yes, & yes.

the worst thing? I know what those parents in our town who buried their daughter last month after she wrapped her car around a telephone poll while racing another car at 80 mph would answer.

S isn’t on a leash anymore. Thanks to all the work of various activists, it is no longer allowed in his particular correctional institution.

He keeps asking us to send him cigarettes, but he swears they are for use in the bartering system that has been established and he doesn’t actually smoke them.

He also keeps asking us to send him raisins, which I hope he uses for energy food, but I fear ends up as some type of alcoholic beverarge.

As for sex, well…

The worst thing my teen could do would be anything that would endanger her life. Drunk driving, drunk riding, hooking up unsafely . . .

At this point, I know that she doesn’t drink, smoke, do drugs or have sex. That could all change when she goes to college, though, but right now, she is so darn busy with school, volunteering and training for her sport that she barely has time to sleep by herself. I wouldn’t be too upset if she drank at the occasional party (in moderation), but I have heard through the grapevine that the taste for alcohol is one that she hasn’t yet acquired. LIterally. I heard from a friend that she makes the disgusted face when tasting alcohol and voluntarily chooses to refrain, even when it’s available.

Worst they could do?—lie, cheat, steal, engage in activities resulting in harm to themselves or others.
Mine are 24 (married), 21, and 19 and have been pretty open about discussing sex, alcohol and drugs. The drugs have been a big NO… the others…well I’ll protect their privacy :).

I don’t know about my kids, ;), but when I was 18 I drank while driving, tried illegal drugs while driving and enjoyed sex–while driving.

Lord knows how I managed to become a responsible parent and adult.

He’s about to turn seven. Not too worried about smoking, sex, or drinking yet.

cheers–At least you didn’t talk on a cell phone while driving!

Cheers, I have a feeling that you would have been a lot of fun to hang out with! (and probably still are…!)

I"m with you, Cheers. I guess we all have to grow up sometime. I’ll never tell the kids the STUPID things that I did in college. By a stroke of sheer good luck nothing terrible happenned to me or my friends, but easily could have. I don’t want my kids thinking that they, too, could behave that way and live to tell the tales!

OK. So I lied. I usually have to nag and threaten my son about 8-10 times before he does any chores. . .and sometimes he talks back, too!
Like I said, he’s a really bad kid. . .
